Greenwald is silent? What, did the sun rise in the West or something?
Posted by: McQ on Thursday, August 09, 2007

Rob Bluey, blogging at RedState, reminds us of a previous whine from Glenn Greenwald of a few weeks ago (when doesn't he whine?):
Liberal blogger Glenn Greenwald made a mountain out of a molehill last month when he accused the U.S. military of granting an "exclusive" interview with Army Gen. David Petraeus to conservative talker Hugh Hewitt. Greenwald dislikes Hewitt with a passion, so the fact that Petraeus, commander of the Multi-National Force in Iraq, would talk to him nearly put Greenwald over the edge.
In light of the decision last week by Gen. David Petraeus to choose Hugh Hewitt, of all people, to interview him, and in light of the post I wrote concerning Gen. Petraeus' three-year history of dubious and seemingly partisan claims about the Iraq War, I submitted an interview request to Centcom, in Iraq, with the hope of asking the General about these matters.
You remember this, of course. I blogged about it here. Mr. Credibility, aka the "sock puppet", essentially called Petreaus a partisan hack.

As far as I was concerned, it was the first shot in the "let's assassinate the character of Gen. Petraeus" attempt by a certain portion of the left, and Greenwald is the acknowledged leader in dubious character assassinations. The attempt was to destroy his credibility prior to his report in September so they could ignore any good news he might have about Iraq (which, as we've been reporting, is going to be very hard for them to do now, given the independent reports we've seen talking about the positive trends there).

So back to Bluey's post. How did his request turn out? Well he whined when he got an "I'll put you on the list" reply from the military. Obviously they were putting him off, says he. He had asked that Petreaus show up on the Alan Colmes show.

Well Petraeus did go on Colmes show exactly two weeks after the Greenwald request. You can hear the interview here.

And the Greenwaldian response?

*chirp, chirp, chirp*

Not that anyone expected better. Admitting you're full of it doesn't lend itself well to concerted character assassination efforts.

But I do have a question - does the Colmes interview now make Petreaus a partisan left-wing hack?

So, does the Colmes interview make Petreaus a left-wing hack now?
Of cource not. Everyone knows that Colmes is a tool of the right-wing, and merely puppets anything Bush!tler tells him to...

Hugh Hewitt has a transcript of the interview for anyone who’s interested.

I like one of the first questions Alan Colmes asked of Gen. Petraeus.

BTW, I think Alan Colmes is about the most respectful LIberal on TV. He is definately the sort of person they mean when they say "Reasonable men can disagree".

I’ll second that - I respect his opinions, though I often disagree with them. He’s a guy I could see arguing with in my living room watching a ball game (me with my whiskey - him with his Chardonnay).

Hannity and Colmes are an interesting pair. Though I more-or-less line up with Hannity on Iraq, immigration, etc., I don’t care much for Hannity’s rah-rah brand of conservatism, nor his pro-drug-war enthusiasm, nor his libertarian bashing. I disagree with Colmes on more issues, but I think I’d enjoy talking to him about those disagreements a lot more than talking to Hannity about the areas in which I disagree with him.

Mr. Credibility, aka the "sock puppet"
You relentlessly remind us of Greenwald’s sock puppetry, but you can quote Matt Sanchez with a straight face?!? I’m perfectly willing to believe Matt when he says his past is behind him, but seriously, if you can unthink his fraud, his career in gay porn as Rod Majors, and of course his career as a gay prostitute, surely the constant namecalling of Greenwald is a bit much.

Retief are you letting your latent homo-erotic feelings bother you? I mean why all this focus on teh ghey? Really I think you protest too much....If you’re conflicted please lt it go, be who you are...because most of us don’t care if Matt Sanchez was or is gay, only YOU guys seem to care...Being a "sock puppet" master speaks to your integrity, being gay doesn’t it, or haven’t you learned anything over on your side of the aisle? Or is it only homophobic and intolerant if Jerry Falwell or the like brings up sexual orientation? I forget all the rules....or is it that you think if you just keep repeating, "He’s teh ghey" we mouf-breath’n booger-eat’n moe-rons on the Single Chromosone Right will quit reading him or quoting him for fear that we’ll catch teh ghey or that our Minister will throw us outta the First Antioch Baptist Church?

The fact that many of us respect Alan Colmes and tend to take time to consider his views (before rejecting them out of hand, of course!) is exactly the reason most of our Internet lefties wouldn’t piss on him if he caught fire.

If you say so McQ. I’m sure your schoolboy taunts are going to make Petraeus much more credible when he arrives in September to tell us that the Surge has kinda reduced violence a bit, not to the level that the Iraqi govenement could survive of course, but a bit. And thanks to your campaign of name calling the american people will all sign on to another Freidman or two of war. Good luck with that.

I’m sure your schoolboy taunts ...
Taunts? Hardly a taunt.

More like a snarky but accurate characterization of the result of a well documented incident involving Mr. Greenwald and his multiple on-line personalities.

Or’d you miss that?
And thanks to your campaign of name calling the american people will all sign on to another Freidman or two of war. Good luck with that.
Uh ... ok.

WTF?

That’s what a taunt is, (taunt deleted). I have to ask again whether English is your first language as you also appear to have forgotten the gist of the post that started this thread. You remember, you were on again about how there’s a vast leftwing conspiracy to assassinate the character of Gen. Petraeus in order to destroy his credibility prior to his report in September so they could ignore any good news he might have about Iraq. So WTF right back at you there brother. Your valiant attempts to defend the good general against those who have already concluded what his report in September will mean are undoubtly a valuable service to stay-the-coursers everywhere, based as they are on your own foregone conclusions about what he’ll report and what course it will indicate.

And Joe, I am rubber. You are glue. Whatever homo-eroticism you impute bounces off me, and sticks to you.

Scott Jacobs, in reference to your earlier comment, I believe you may be thinking of Toby Keith.

Well then it is an earned and accurate taunt. Feel better?

So that has what to do with "signing on to another Friedman or two"?

I’m a little lost here, Retief ... what’s a "Friedman" and why should I care? Is that taught in "English as a primary language class?"

So Retief, you seem to be indicating that being gay is bad or something?

That is a rather odd statement for a progressive, is it not?

Greenwald’s issue is dishonesty and that is definitely applicable here.

Sorry, Scott J - I prefer Erb! This one is barely out of diapers!

What a maroon!

I would also like to know why leftists bring this up so much. Could you explain why this bothers you Retief? Is it a thing where you put it out there, hoping conservatives see the word "gay" and become consumed with disgust, ala John Kerry\Lynn Cheney?

It strikes me as interesting that the people that were so bothered by "Rod Majors" , will invariably rise in defense of Barney Franks and Steven Gobie’s little enterprise in Georgetown. (No pun intended)

Assuming they can even remember back to 89.
