Here’s a keeper
Posted by: McQ on Friday, August 24, 2007

Watch this. It's LTC John Nagl, one of the guys on the Counterinsurgency manual writing team with Gen. Petraeus, on "The Daily Show" with Jon Stewart. He has his way with Stewart (not that Stewart does or says anything wrong, well, you'll see what I mean) ... nicely, politely and professionally, of course. The last part about "percentages" is priceless.

Oh, and in passing ... it's a nice capsule look at what COIN is all about - its development, challenges and goals.

D*mn, you beat me to it. I was about to post about this (only just seen it in the UK). That guy was very good and the % thing cracked me up.

Heh ... his quip about New York was pretty good too ("be polite, be professional, be prepared to kill). Stewart was really not prepared for him to have a sense of humor was he?

That’s awesome!

Nicely done by the LTC...

But I’m not sure he was talking about NYC, McQ... I would put forward the idea that he was talking about The Daily Show

I agree with Scott, I think that the LTC was talking about the show and Stewart misinterpreted the comment.

One of the best interviews on the DS for a while. That guy should be put in front of the camera more often. He was clear, concise and charismatic. Kudos to the Daily Show as well for bringing him on.

Uh, in this case, the LTC was the staff for General Petraeus.

The military needs to get these guys in front of the camera more often. That was phenomenal. The crowd actually hung in the LTC’s every word, even ignoring Stewart’s quips that usually at least garner a twitter or two. You got it exactly right, McQ, Nagl had complete control of that interview.

Hopefully we’ll see more appearances like that.

Very nice.

And very encouraging. I keep looking for reasons to think that the "other side" actually will listen with an open mind after all.
