How sick has all of this become?
Posted by: McQ on Friday, September 07, 2007

I mean really, this sort of crap continues to both amaze and disgust me:
Are you still fans of Matt Hasselbeck and Mack Strong after they visited President Bush last week in Bellevue? Or have their political leanings turned you against them?

The Seahawks quarterback and fullback gave the 43rd president a No. 43 jersey with his name on it at a $1,000-a-plate fundraiser for Rep. Dave Reichert at the Hyatt.

At the time, Hasselbeck called it a thrill and said it was a win-win, this opportunity to meet the president and get out of a team meeting.

But as soon as he saw the picture of the two players with Bush, Gary Wright, the team's vice president of administration, said he was concerned about negative reaction.

Maybe in really red Republican states, it would not have been a big deal. But Washington is a blue state, and deep, deep Democratic blue in King County. So objections were raised, and Hasselbeck heard them and read them. He got nasty voice mails, e-mails and text messages.
"Maybe in really red Republican states, it would not have been a big deal?"

So if Hillary is elected president and shows up in Georgia, a "really red state" and the QB for the Falcons (who won't be Mike Vick) gives her a jersey, it's ok for the hate mongers to vilify the QB and team because, you know, it's a red state and all?

What a load of manure. Now bad behavior can be sanctioned by politics?
At my house, the Go 2 Wife was stunned, and it sounds like coach Mike Holmgren got the same reaction from his wife, too.

"I can't really tell you what she said," Holmgren said.

Kathy Holmgren did tell her husband: "I'm glad they didn't ask you." If they had, he would not have gone, no doubt because of the wrath he would have faced at home.

"She's a dyed-in-the-wool Democrat," Holmgren said.

Holmgren has been to the White House on three occasions.

"If you get a chance to meet the president of the United States, it's probably special," Holmgren said, and it was to him.
Yeah, no kidding. Where have the freaking adults in this country gone?

The aspect that really gets under my skin is that these same over-reactive, BDS-infected blue staters consider themselves so much more mature and sophisticated than those redneck, flag-waving Neanderthal red staters. Even though they act like spoiled children over incidents like this one.

The infantilization of America continues apace. That’s why it’s so hard to find adults now.

Where do you guys get this strange idea that people who disagree with you politically are people? They’re not, they’re less than people, if they disagree with you. Sheesh, everybody knows that.

The sad thing is, this type of behavior wins because a lot of the sane people just don’t want the hassle(beck) of being vilified for simply disagreeing and thus remain silent. I know I’ve done it (person at work says ridiculously over-the-top vicious political slur, I just don’t have enough time on my lunch break to be dumped on AND get across the street for a sandwich, etc.).

People like that are always angry and upset about something. So I just laugh at their anger and hurt.

If people want to live a life of anger and suffering, who am I to stop them? Give up your seats, I’m sure someone else who knows how to have a good time outside of politics will happily snatch them up while laughing.

PS- Holmgren you really should consider divorce. What kind of shrew would keep you from such an honor and experience?

Well they certainly aren’t members of the political "progressives."

Aw come on , these are tolerant(progressive, democrat) people we are talking about here, must be a misunderstanding of some sort. Perhaps if Hasselback and Strong also go to visit Putin or Mugabe or Castro they will be forgiven.

I’d just like to say that my Chicago Bears beat the living crap out of Hasselback and the Seattle Seahawks in the playoffs last year, and we’ll do it again this year if they somehow manage to make it to the playoffs.

That is all I really have to say about this.
