Iraq: The bad news never stops
Posted by: Dale Franks on Tuesday, October 16, 2007

As this headline indicates, there's not shortage of bad news coming out of Iraq:
As violence falls in Iraq, cemetery workers feel the pinch
This is, apparently, a problem.
At what's believed to be the world's largest cemetery, where Shiite Muslims aspire to be buried and millions already have been, business isn't good.

A drop in violence around Iraq has cut burials in the huge Wadi al Salam cemetery here by at least one-third in the past six months, and that's cut the pay of thousands of workers who make their living digging graves, washing corpses or selling burial shrouds.
So, what, exactly is the message I'm supposed to infer from this? That more people need to be killed in order to preserve the livelihoods of cemetery workers?

"Good news is no news," I guess.

I wonder ifthe author was conscious of all of the recent criticism about the lack of reporting on the improving situation in Iraq (see General Sanchez’ comments) and this was his way of presenting good news in a snarky, tongue-in-cheek sort of way.

Declining death toll: poor and minorities hit the hardest.

Either that, or "every silver lining has a cloud." Or both, perhaps.

That would be the most generous reading of it...

Although I’m not inclined to be all that generous with the MSM.

Maybe they could work a deal to import the remains of the ’problems’ they don’t have in Iran.

Would seem appropriate if the Congressional Democrats were put on the same unemployment line as these cemetary workers.
