Is Hillary’s tin ear really this bad?
Posted by: Billy Hollis on Wednesday, October 24, 2007

Hillary thinks she might be having some trouble in Iowa, and wonders if there is some political misogyny at work:
"I was shocked when I learned Iowa and Mississippi have never elected a woman governor, senator or member of Congress," she said. "There has got to be something at work here..."
Until a few decades ago, the cultural norm was male politicians. By simple statistical chance, there's nothing surprising about a state or two that have not yet placed women into federal office. So accusing voters of prejudice when it could be random chance looks like a misstep to me.

But then she really steps in it. Turns out there is one other state in the same situation: Mississippi. And Hillary doesn't seem nearly as shocked that they have not elected a woman to federal office:
"I think Iowa poses a special burden, or a special obstacle to me because when you look at the numbers, how can Iowa be ranked with Mississippi? That's not what I see. That's not the quality. That's not the communitarianism, that's not the openness I see in Iowa."
So it's completely understandable that the anti-feminist rubes in Mississippi have kept the women down on the farm, eh Hillary?

I've given Hillary points for handling things well in the past, but this remark just reeks of condescension. Given the fact that she has higher negatives than any serious presidential candidate in my lifetime, why make them worse? I guess you could argue that she's not going to take the South anyway, but she can still motivate folks down here to supply the money to defeat her.

(And I bet I'm not the only one who gets the creeps when she talks about "communitarianism".)

Hillary actually uses the word "communitarianism"? Boy, the people who have compared her to the odious Ivy Starnes in ATLAS SHRUGGED weren’t exagerrating.

It amazes me to see anyone indulging this woman in any way.

I’ve described Rudy Giuliani as "Benito Mussolini about two-thirds reincarnated."

It’s just about impossible to describe Rodham precisely today because she represents an evil that very few people believe exists anymore. They simply don’t believe what they’re seeing right in front of their eyes.

And this is the whole truth: I have days when the old Stalinist precept, "The worse, the better," makes all the sense in the world to me. I think the fullest ethical horror of our time will only begin to dawn on people at large once this woman is elected.

Billy: what you’re calling her "tin ear" represents her single most difficult problem: how and when to speak her authentic mind in front of people who might not elect her if they really understood what she’s all about.

Well, you know, Arkansas borders on Mississippi, you’d have thunk maybe during her little stay in Ark-Kansas she might have meditated on Mississippi at some point or other. hmmmmmmm, maybe that exactly explains why she thinks she can dump on Mississippi.

Oh, that’s right, I forgot, she’s the Jr. Senator from enlightened upstate New York. She doesn’t have any experience with us backwater dumb as dirt Southern hell hole states only recently dragged back kicking and screaming into the Union.

Reminds me of Inspector Renault from Casablanca as he collects his gambling winning just as he’s declaring he is ’shocked! shocked! to find gambling going on here!’ at Ricks.

Nice try but everyone KNOWS that it was that Tyrant Lincoln and his Whiggish friends, lusting after a stronger central government and tariff moneys that caused the aggression! I want San Fran Nan to sponsor a resolution condemning the Federal Government for it’s aggression and genocide in the period 1861-65!

BTW, I think Hillary probably wrote Mississippi off long ago, it wasn’t here tin ear. Not that she doesn’t have one, but I doubt she and her posse really thoght she’d capture MS in ’08 General Election.

Let’s just say that Hillary is no Bill when it comes to natural political talent. If anything undoes her, it will be this. But I doubt it will happen. The Clinton machine is just too powerful.

Federal Government for it’s aggression
Yeah, if they hadn’t sailed that fort into Charleston harbor like that...and those suicide camels the Army was training down in Texas in Little Egypt.
Hadji Ali and his merry band had to be stopped.

You ain’t just-a whistling Dixie there, pal...

Made my skin crawl when I read it.

They just need to play that bit ver and over again when it comes time to vote for Hillary in ’08. That’ll end her hopes of winning that state.

I guess it never occured to her that it could be the fact that no woman has run in those states that the voters think enough of to elect? I guess "Lack of quality" isn’t a concept she’s familiar with...

Hillary Rodham’s biggest obstacle is that she is merely a third-rate Republican trying to pass for
something else. There can be no truth in her, no way to erase the Goldwater Girl label. She made her decision, just as gang-bangers make theirs and have to pay the price. She IS a republican,
without Country Club credentials. Just a small-letter republican.
