Paul Krugman has been predicting a recession every year since 2002. He doesn’t need to explain why he’s been so consistently wrong though, because he’s a Very Serious Pundit This R Serious Economiez!

Let’s assume for a second you’ve got a point about Krugman - do you even remotely understand now why we don’t believe the people who have consistently said "we’re winning!!!!!!" in Iraq? They tend to be the Very Serious People Who Also Want To Bomb Iran. |

I’m one of those people who have been making the point that the pro-war crowd has been getting it wrong now for quite a long time, and it’s past time to stop listening to their unfalsifiable warnings and claims.
That said, I’ve also been listening to the Left screeching for about 4 years that Bush is going to invade Syria or Iran....and how has that scaremongering prediction turned out? |

Well frankly that’s hard to reconcile with your dayjob and your co-bloggers. Hmmmm? That said, I’ve also been listening to the Left screeching for about 4 years that Bush is going to invade Syria or Iran....and how has that scaremongering prediction turned out? I was silly enough in 2002 to think Bush wasn’t dumb enough to invade Iraq. Why should we take that chance again, especially with all the Iraq saber-rattling? It’s not as if there isn’t a recent and ongoing track record. |

Ironically, that’s the argument the pro-war crowd used against Saddam. |

Except it was an argument without facts or reality to back it up. |

Except it was an argument without facts or reality to back it up. Stop when you’re behind on this, Oliver. Facts and reality haven’t converged with the Left’s predictions of an invasion of Iran or Syria, either. "We don’t trust him" is not substantively different than the argument made against Saddam. |

We think George Bush is stupid enough to blunder into an invasion of yet another middle eastern country. Recent, very recent, history would seem to show that he’s very capable of this. I have no idea how any sort of observation could ignore that. The world fears us making the same blunder with Bush in control, whereas even Saddam’s nearest neighbors didn’t believe the White House’s "warnings" of imminent nuclear holocaust from Hussein. |

I suppose things look different in different parts of the country. I’m in retail, in an area that was very suspectible to the real estate bubble. Our customers are not shopping. This is probably the slowest period in terms of sales (and potentially the worst Christmas) since this time in 2001. As far as I’m concerned, we’re not just on the verge of a recession, but we’ve been in one for at least the last four months. |

kishevi,
You do realize that there is more to the American economy than residential real estate and consumer spending, right? |

Krugman is a good example of why the "Bush-is-stupid" meme is so popular in the Hive, particularly in its leftiest divisions. The Hive has gone on for decades believing nonsense, partiocularly economic nonsense, so dumb even the banjo-playing kid in DELIVERANCE wouldn’t swallow it. So along comes Bush and now they’ve got someone to point to and laugh at say, "Boy, is that guy stupid!" as a way of distracting the public (and, I suspect, themselves) from their own boneheadedness. |

This is the beautiful thing about the US economy: there’s always a recession right around the corner...as well as a boom. |
