House Republicans clearly enjoyed watching Democratic leaders squirm during the series of votes, which lasted more than one hour.

“The determination was made that if Democrats are going to waste time and resources with a resolution like this, then it should be thoroughly debated,” said Brian Kennedy, the spokesman for Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio), adding that the charges against Cheney were “ludicrous.”

Nadeam Elshami, a spokesman for Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), accused Republicans of “wasting time.”

“They’re voting to impeach the vice president. What does that say about the support for President Bush in the Republican Conference?” he added, trying to put the best face on a situation Democratic leaders had wanted to avoid.

Uh, no Nadeam, they weren't voting to "impeach the vice president", they were voting to show how ineffective the House Democratic leadership is. And they managed to do that rather handily.

In a separate statement, Hoyer called the debate “a continuation of Republicans’ gotcha games that achieve nothing more than short-term entertainment for themselves, while showing their disdain for the importance of the people’s business.”

Added Hoyer: “This episode has served to demonstrate once again the absence of a real Republican agenda for the American people.”

Hey Stenny, get a clue. I wouldn't be speaking of agendas considering it was one of your presidential candidates who brought the whole thing up. But as an aside, I have noticed the Democratic leadership doesn't talk about incompetence at quite the same level it did a few months ago.

And three cheers for Rep. John Shadegg, who is reportedly the mastermind behind the "wait, guys... Lets see how they handle us wanting to debate this issue" plan that had all but 5 of the co-signers jumping ship to table the resolution, and loads more changing their vote in an attempt to kill it when it started to look like it would pass.

I haven’t been that entertained by political coverage in a long, long time.

Dennis Kucinich called his party’s bluff. If Democrats believe half of the things they say about the Bush administration, then they ought to impeach both Bush and Cheney.

I don’t believe that Bush and Cheney “lied us into war.” If the Democrats who say they did really believe it, though, then they ought to do something about it. Surely taking the country into war on pretenses they knew were false counts as a high crime and misdemeanor.

If they don’t believe it, on the other hand, they are spreading some poisonous lies for partisan advantage. Good for Kucinich for having the courage of his sincere, though loopy, convictions.
