Hillary Clinton: Heh ... (update)
Posted by: McQ on Wednesday, November 14, 2007

We have a new position:
Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton on Wednesday came out against granting driver's licenses to illegal immigrants, after weeks of pressure in the presidential race to take a position on a now-failed ID plan from her home state governor.

Clinton has faced criticism from candidates in both parties for her noncommittal answers on New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer's attempt to allow illegal immigrants in his state to receive driver's licenses. Spitzer abandoned the effort Wednesday.

"I support Governor Spitzer's decision today to withdraw his proposal," Clinton said in a statement. "As president, I will not support driver's licenses for undocumented people and will press for comprehensive immigration reform that deals with all of the issues around illegal immigration including border security and fixing our broken system."
At least for today. Don't forget there's a debate tomorrow night ... stay tuned to see if, within a 24 hour period we can get yet another one. Also remember that 5 of her compatriots supported Spitzer's move and raised their hand to say so on the last debate.

Wolf Blitzer, are you getting this down? Now, do you have the stones to ask them about it?

UPDATE: Reactions:
A spokeswoman for Sen. Chris Dodd, D-Connecticut, called her action "flip-flopping cubed."

Bill Burton, a spokesman for Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, also sharply criticized Clinton for switching her views on the issue.

"When it takes two weeks and six different positions to answer one question on immigration, it's easier to understand why the Clinton campaign would rather plant their questions than answer them,” Burton said.
As far as I'm concerned Dodd is the only one who gets a pass on this. Obama needs to answer if he still supports what Spitzer was proposing as he said he did during the last debate.

So, she was for giving licenses to illegals before she was against it?

Wow...I mean, that’s just brazenly shameless.

She has major cojones.

God America bless Burton.

Now, why did it take her so long to get this answer out. Does it really take that long to poll focus groups and triangulate the answers...

Nope, it takes that long for the position to either succeed or fail.

"As president, I will not support driver’s licenses for undocumented people because once we give them a license, they won’t be undocumented and will press for comprehensive immigration reform that deals with all of the issues around illegal immigration by giving illegals amnesty thereby solving all the issues.
Fixed!

Every election year we go through the same mud slinging. One president can be just that for 8 years. Just once I would like a simple statement like Hey guys it will take me the first four years to clean up the past messes and the next four years to start my changes. This alone would get my vote. This flip floping needs to stop

Somewhat of a total tangent but...

At my work there is a tiny little book (about 4 inches square) with old photos and tidbits of Indian wisdom. I don’t think everything in it is terribly wise (who chose the quotes anyhow?) but one thing struck me...

It was an explanation of why the chiefs having a discussion would take so long to get around to actually talking. Essentially it was that haste, either in asking questions or in answering them, implied a lack of thought. It was impolite to push a question, even (particularly?) a very important and urgent question, and it was impolite to answer a question too quickly. (I suppose it would show a lack of consideration for the question and questioner.)

So anyhow...

I’m surfing blogs about the debate and then this post and thinking that maybe it would be a good thing if our politicians DID put off answering questions of policy until they have time to consider the issue, and *whoosh* this vision flashs into my mind of our politicians in a "debate" or television interview sucking on a peace pipe and pretending not to hear the hasty and impertinent question, waiting for someone to show the seriousness of things by giving time and thought to asking and then everyone acting like they still hadn’t heard until they’d chewed everything up one side and down the other in their minds and then eventually getting around to answering.

It was just suddenly really really funny.

Whole Hillary’s campaign is controversial. At first, I thought she is a good candidate but her campaign shows that she can’t be taken seriously. I started to change my mind about her when she struggled to give straight answers to simple questions. Next, I get very disappointed when I watched this video http://www.weshow.com/us/p/23714/the_student_who_asked_hillary_a_planted_question which proves that she plants questions during her campaign appearance. Shame on you, Hillary!
