Wounded vets jeered in UK
Posted by: McQ on Wednesday, November 28, 2007

The US isn't the only place where incidents of anti-military bias have shown their ugly head. From the UK:
Injured soldiers who lost their limbs fighting for their country have been driven from a swimming pool training session by jeering members of the public.

The men, injured during tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, were taking part in a rehabilitation session at a leisure centre, when two women demanded they be removed from the pool. They claimed that the soldiers "hadn't paid" and might scare the children.
Hadn't paid? Seems to me they'd paid quite a price. Scare the children? Yeah, guys without limbs always "scared" me as a child.

Could these women be anymore selfish and clueless? Said Admiral Lord Boyce, a former head of the Armed Forces:
"These people are beneath contempt and everything should be done to get their names and publish them in the press," he said. "It is contemptible that people who have given up their limbs for their country should be so abused when they are trying to get fit again."
Boyce says these women should be "named" and "shamed". My guess is they'll instead be feted by a certain segment of the population.

John at averagegayjoe has chased down a site that helps these young soldiers called "Help for Heroes". If you're so inclined, you can make a donation on line.

Pathetic. Talk about being ashamed. I hope their children ask them every night ’mommy, why were you so mean to the soldiers?’

Thanks for the link, Bruce. I hope we can raise some money to help these guys. Btw, did you know this whole post got picked by Reuters? I didn’t know that they did that.

Link.

Yeah, got picked up twice today by Reuters (the Edwards post as well). Also picked up on a post about Turkey and "Blind Faith".

The US isn’t the only place where incidents of anti-military bias have shown their ugly head.
Just a question. Are we sure that it was “anti-military bias” that motivated these women? It wasn’t that clear in the article.

Female English villagers are notorious hags (I know, I used to date one, and she would club a man to death for jumping the queue – no matter the circumstances) and so stubborn that even when shown their error, they’re still steadfast in their position.

I don’t know.
It’s just hard for me to imagine anyone wishing to evict disabled war vets from a swimming pool because they’re against the military. Then again, it’s hard for me to imagine anyone wishing to evict anyone disabled from a swimming pool, especially just because they didn’t pay… well, pay cash anyway.

Not enough information. And I am biased against English chicks for being total tools for no good reason.

Disgusting nonetheless.

Cheers.

This is not a new thing....

The Last Of the Light Brigade by Rudyard Kipling, 1891
....

The poor little army departed, limping and lean and forlorn.
And the heart of the Master-singer grew hot with "the scorn of scorn."
And he wrote for them wonderful verses that swept the land like flame,
Till the fatted souls of the English were scourged with the thing called Shame.

O thirty million English that babble of England’s might,
Behold there are twenty heroes who lack their food to-night;
Our children’s children are lisping to "honour the charge they made —"
And we leave to the streets and the workhouse the charge of the Light Brigade!
