I first saw that video sometime around 1993 or 1994. I don’t even think tazering was an option back then. |

The time/date stamp says 1992.
If that guy got tased, his heart would have exploded. |

Yup ... I know the time stamp says 1992, but I never mentioned the guy tasing anyone. I said watch how a pro handles a similar situation. |

...but I never mentioned the guy tasing anyone. I said watch how a pro handles a similar situation. If video was non-existant, I’d bet that cop wished (if only fleetingly) he had a taser in hand. Fortunately there are enough good cops that realize that what comes around, goes around, and that there is no better just dessert than stepping back and letting an idiot make an idiot of him/herself, for all to see. |

Frankly I thought the cop was enjoying the guy making a fool of himself. I cracked up when he said, "and for your convenience, we include an envelope. See?"
And then when he told him he’d cite him for littering, I laughed out loud. He handled it about as well and you can handle a situation like that. |

Frankly I thought the cop was enjoying the guy making a fool of himself. I cracked up when he said, "and for your convenience, we include an envelope. See?" Yeah, that was my reaction too. The cop had that idiot’s number, knew he was all bluster, and probably couldn’t wait to laugh about it with his buddies at the station when they reviewed the video. |

At first I thought the driver was Billy Beck, but then I realized that Billy would have explained to the cop that since the sixteenth amendment was never properly ratified, and since the cop’s salary was paid by Billy as a taxpayer, his very job amounts to an illegal confiscation of income and that Billy is affecting a citizen’s arrest.
Billy: You’re gonna cite me for littering? F*ck THAT sh*t, Smokey! BLAM! BLAM! BLAM!BLAM!BLAM!BLAM! You think I’m some kind of punkass?!!! BLAM!BLAM!BLAM!BLAM!BLAM!
And then Billy would have whipped out his cellphone and saved the sound of the spent brass tinkling on the asphalt as his ringtone.
But like I said, I realized it wasn’t Billy.

That specific video is routinely shown in police academies... it’s a set up. The back story to that particular incident is that the particular officer in the video liked to turn his camera on-and-off. He’d deliberately get motorists all wound up, then turn on the camera to record the fun.
My personal opinion? Even in that short segment of video, that cop was being a smart-ass, and baiting the motorist. As any cop knows, you can get a friggin’ priest to swing at you if you bait him enough.
I’ll see if I can get you a link to some more information, but IIRC, that cop was fired. |

The facts on that video are in dispute... he may still be employed with that agency. Let me see what else I can find. |

Jeff: cute manga. Gotta website? I betcha drive all the teenies swampy.
Bruce: I would hope that that cop would yet keep his sense of humor today with a non-lethal zap ready on his belt. It’s not hard to imagine, what with the way he stood there and let that wretch flail at him like that (if the video is what it prima facie appears). The jackass got off without the beat-down, which is fine by me, but it’s starting to look like the good ol’ days. |

That specific video is routinely shown in police academies Maybe Gardner was sick that day.The back story to that particular incident is that the particular officer in the video liked to turn his camera on-and-off. The lapse between 4:59 and 5:00 on the video is around 20 seconds and between 5:00 and 5:01 some under 30. I mean I know that’s post-production editing but still, the lost comedy gold.
You can’t not laugh. Geez, the cop would have to toss spiders in at me to get my screaming up to quite that pitch. |
