Maybe: the personal attacks against Murtha were vile and inexcusable? Maybe Murtha is honest and was stating his informed opinion, and the attacks on him were wrong?
Murtha honestly assesses the situation. Those who attack him personally because they disagree with him are discredited. Completely. |

He convicted the Haditha marines publicly which in addition to jeopardizing those troop’s rights is also fuel for anti-American attacks both in Iraq and around the world.
No longer denying the undeniable isn’t a great accomplishment. It means he has a pulse or at least more awareness of what is really going on than I gave him credit for. But its doesn’t excuse anything he’s done before. |

the personal attacks against Murtha were vile and inexcusable They were completely justified.
He called the Marines at Haditha cold-blooded murderers without knowing the facts. Those who attack him personally because they disagree with him are discredited. Completely. No one here attacked him just because they disagreed with him. He was attacked because he made numerous statements out of political expediency rather than relying on the facts. |

Murtha honestly assesses the situation. Like he did here? Those who attack him personally because they disagree with him are discredited. Before I’ll take that opinion seriously, I have to see some indication that you understand the difference between a "disagreement" and a "personal attack".
If Murtha is capable of looking at the situation on the ground and changing his mind about performing the Democratic "Iraq failure mantra" act for the rest of his career, that at least puts him ahead of Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, the entire lineup of Democratic presidential candidates, most of the leftist blogosphere, Keith Olbermann, and the editorial staff of the New York Times. But it doesn’t excuse what he said earlier about those Marines, given the way the case turned out.
He needs to apologize to them. That plus his current admission on the surge would do a lot to restore his credibility as a leader. Well, it would also help if he stopped funneling millions of bucks to his mysterious pet companies in Pennsylvania via earmarks. |

Yeah, I don’t think Hell will freeze over till Murtha-man applogizes for what he said about the Marines...
Which he Especially won’t do now since, you know, he’s getting sued and all...
Saying "I’m sorry, I made a mistake" would make it too easy for the Marine to win. |

Murtha has more than his comments about the Marines to apologize for, and I suspect that an apology is far less than what he owes.
His grudging backtrack on the surge is a pre-emptive move to get his balls out of the soup.
This is a venal, corrupt man, and no mere political partisan. He got himself out of the Abscam mess by turning for the FBI. Let’s hope things don’t go so neatly for him this time.
As for Erb, he has lapsed so far into self-parody that I can’t tell anymore whether he’s actually the person posting under his name or whether it’s one of you guys spoofing him. |

I want to see him pay through the nose when he loses the lawsuit filed by these Marines. Then I’ll be satisifed, well along with seeing him lose the next election. |

Him admitting that he was wrong would be a start. Thing is, he’ll never do it. The guy needs to be removed from office, and sued within an inch of his life for his misdeeds. But we’ll never see that happen, either.

Don comments on an Erb comment:Murtha is honest —Scott Erb
Riiiight.
You sure know how to look the fool, Scott. You’re terribly behind the curve here, Don.
Boris once had a run of several months posting in the Usenet sewers as "The Fool."
So, he covered that base a long time ago.
Also, when Scott says "Murtha is honest," you have to flesh that out with the implied antecedent, which reveals the double-bind:
"I’m an unashamed liar: Murtha is honest." |
