Mike Huckabee’s Bold Energy Plan

Gov. Mike Huckabee has unveiled his bold, new vision for America's future energy policy.

I consider myself a conservationist. I think we ought to have some cap and trade. It worked with acid rain. I think it could work with Co2 emissions. I think we ought to be out there talking about ways to reduce energy consumption and waste. And we ought to declare that we will be free of energy consumption in this country within a decade, bold as that is.

Well, it is bold. But, I don't much like it.

Let’s grant him, for a moment, that he means "oil" instead of energy, since being "free of energy consumption" is, y’know, death. It’s still ridiculous.

As is the promise on his campaign website:

The first thing I will do as President is send Congress my comprehensive plan for energy independence. We will achieve energy independence by the end of my second term.

I definitely agree. There has been a distressing lack of talking about energy for the last 20 or 30 years.

Even assuming he did mean oil consumption, he is still ridiculous. As for energy independence in 8 years, clueless. .
