A Christmas Eve conversation between myself and my 5 year old son, Alex:

ALEX: Daddy, can I have some eggnog?

ME: Yeah, sure, you can have some.

(pause)

ALEX: Well...

ME: Yes, I said you can have some eggnog.

ALEX: (impatiently) Daddy, the eggnog isn't going to fix itself.

We had a Christmas dinner party, and every time we have a dinner party my 7 year old son insists I serve sushi. I don’t understand why, but it’s a lot of work that can’t be done in advance, and it doesn’t always go with the menu (yesterday we had the sushi plate sitting next to a plate of baklava).
