Nah. Accordingly to the actual evidence at that Pew poll liberals love to cite, Americans are roughly where they are with regard to government as they were in about 1987.
Right now, suburbanites and independents lean toward Dems because their last memory of a Democrat is Bill Clinton, who turned out to be a better Republican President than most Republicans. I have no doubt that if voters turn the full machinery of government over to Democrats in 2008, they will swing back to the right in very short order. |

I tend to agree with what Sean said above... but oh boy, those two years of full dem control. Lemme see— when we had Bill Clinton and the full dem congress, did we not get a 10% income tax increase and governmental regulation so that toilets can’t flush any more?
I’m guessing between 2008-2009 we’ll see another 10% tax increase and the mandatory goring out of one eye. |

... there are many out there Don’t panic, Iowa is a relatively liberal state and the Democrats a reporter encounters on the campaign trail are probably left of left, so it’s not surprising that they’d express that view, but it doesn’t mean they’re representative of voters in general, in Iowa or elsewhere.
And there are different takes on what ’fixing my life’ entails; some conservatives would like politicians to ’fix things’ by staying the heck out of their lives. |

Both the GOP and Democratic parties have embraced big government. The debt has nearly doubled during President Bush’s time in office. The partisan game of demonizing the other is, well Todd Rundgren said it best: "I think their game is just designed to confuse, they cut the pie up and the rest of us lose." |

The debt has nearly doubled during President Bush’s time in office. Note that he doesn’t say how large the economy has grown by comparison. No perspective, that guy. ’Course it’s hard to show perspective when you’re intellectually dishonest.
I remember in grade school being told I would be paying Reagan’s debts. Those numbers look laughable now. |
