Obama and Huckabee.
Editor of the Harvard Law Review vs. a geographically challenged, disbeliever of the theory of revolution. Who also thinks gay people are pretty much the same as necrophiliacs.
There is no doubt the next presidential election will be won by a Republican. For 749 reasons, America will continue to elect a Republican POTUSOA, at least for the next 12 to 20 years.
But it is worth noting, at this particular moment, the contrast that comes out of a State like Iowa, which is rather homogenous, at least socially and ethnically speaking.
And it says more about the debate between the left and the right in this country than anything else could.
Why? Because despite their political differences, those on the left and right in the Midwest mingle pretty freely among one and other. It’s not at all uncommon there for conservatives and progressives to mingle in a variety of settings. It’s the nature of the Midwest. Their not that different, when it comes to a lot of things.
And yet, these are the choices of the pluralities on each side of the fence in this caucus.
Wow. |

Guess what, people on left and right live and work together, comingle EVERYWHERE. Do you envision a country where walled enclaves of conservatives and liberals exist, and the 2 never meet at any point?

It’s happy people unhappy with the direction of the country in each party pushing a candidate that wants change. I think we’re seeing a shift in American politics now — one that will leave Clinton, Guiliani and Romney behind. It might be McCain and Huckabee fighting it out in the GOP, and Obama could run away with it.
I have not watched any debate or paid much attention to this campaign because year before campaignings, gaffes, or ’big stories’ become moot once the real battle begins. Huckabee and Obama really seemed like the most genuine and inspiring candidates (regardless of whether I agree with them), and I think that is helping them in a year where people are fed up with division, power struggles, mutual demonization, and the like. Now it’s time to start paying attention, remembering the silly notion that it was "inevitably" Clinton vs. Guiliani or Romney. |

When challenged to provide a cite for Huckabee’s alleged homophobia, mkultra has ignored the request. When was the remark made, oh round mound of sound? Has Huckabee said anything later to indicate he’s changed his thinking on the subject?
I’ll say what I’ve said in other threads: the Iowa caucus isn’t nearly as important as some in the press claim. It rarely predicts the party nominee and it almost never predicts the President-elect.
Huckabee’s star is fading in other states. So maybe he won Iowa just on organization rather than on his message. We’ll see what the next week brings.\ |

When challenged to provide a cite for Huckabee’s alleged homophobia, mkultra has ignored the request. When was the remark made, oh round mound of sound? Has Huckabee said anything later to indicate he’s changed his thinking on the subject? This is a quote from Huck:It is now difficult to keep track of the vast array of publicly endorsed and institutionally supported aberrations—from homosexuality and pedophilia to sadomasochism and necrophilia. Steverino, what the hell is wrong with you?
Seriously. |

Steverino, what the hell is wrong with you? Nothing’s wrong with me (ignoring the fact that it was shark — and not I —who asked what the hell is wrong with you), but your reading comprehension skills appear to be lacking. I asked when was that quote made. You didn’t provide a time frame. Has Huckabee retracted or corrected his statement since?
If we’re going to get into old quotes, you need to defend your party’s continuing election of the racist Robert Byrd.
Also, Huckabee isn’t saying homosexuality is equivalent to necrophilia. He’s listing a group of "institutionally supported aberrations." That’s not equating the two.
mkultra proves once again he is incapable of fair debate. He is a sleazy, intellectually dishonest, vicious excuse for a human being.
I’ll ask it again, mk, and I’ll even put it in bold type so you don’t miss it: When did Huckabee say it?

I asked for the Huckaboob quote the other day.
Now, my first thought was that he’s not saying they are the same, but rather they are all now ’approved’ aberrations.
But, you know, in reality that IS equating them. Aberrations is generally a pejorative term - though in pure form it simply means deviation from the norm.
And I wasn’t aware that we generally approved on a government level of pedophilia, necrophilia or sadomasochism, so I disagree with Huckalung on that count.
I hate to agree with MK you know, but in this case it would appear that Huckabee did, at the time of his statement, consider homosexuality to be the same, that is, as bad, as the other three things he listed, or he wouldn’t have included it in his list of bad things. Date quoted for the ’text’ is from his book "Kids who kill" in 1998.
Wow....is that ice I see forming on the firey lake here next to Satan?

What a narrow minded, bigoted, attitude you express. Like the Midwest is the only place this happens. Which part of the country doesn’t this happen in, Mkland?
As someone pointed out, we don’t live and work in little gated enclaves labeled conservative and liberal, right and left, with NO MINGLING ALLOWED signs posted everywhere.
Maybe that’s your problem, actually. Maybe YOU do, by choice, live in precisely this kind of environment. What’s it like "separate and stupid" land?
Broaden your perspectives, dude, it’s the real world out here for the rest of us, you know, brown people hanging around with evil white folks like we actually like each other. Liberals and conservatives living together, mass hysteria! |

looker; If a police chief of a major city stated that is was "difficult to keep track of the vast array of crimes, from shoplifting and robbery to rape and murder"; would he then be equating shoplifting to rape? Crime certainly isn’t a positive term. The more important term here is "vast array". That shows that he feels there are substantial differences between these ’aberrations’. Huckabee certainly puts them all in the same category, but in the same sentence he acknowledges that they are not the same. |

"consider homosexuality to be the same, that is, as bad, as the other three things he listed,"
Perhaps not. The words ’from.....to....’ could be fairly interpreted as a spectrum of aberrations, from bad to worse, for example. Winds, as another example, range from gentle zephyrs to raging hurricanes. |
