Bill Gates: A nerd, it’s true, but with a sense of humor
Posted by: Billy Hollis on Monday, January 07, 2008

If you attend Microsoft conferences, you've seen the tongue-in-cheek videos they produce, usually starring Gates or Balmer or both. Here's one of them, spoofing what Bill Gates' last days at Microsoft might look like.

Bill Gates' last days

Guest stars include a couple of folks we've been discussing around QandO just the last few days...

I watched the webcast last night as it was aired, and it was priceless.

I like that he can laugh at himself like that. It really is neat.

Watch the whole thing. At the end, you will see the living, breathing reason I want a gamer-girlfriend.

Later on in the CES keynote, they are going through some of celebs that Bill has had, and they touched on 2005... Quote Robbie: "Isn’t that the year none of the demo’s worked?"

I mean, this IS the guy that, during a Windows ME demo, it went BSoD, and he said "Well, this is why it’s still in beta" or words to that effect.

And to Bill’s credit, he didn’t actually respond...

Though he might well have been planning the buyout of where ever that guy worked, just so he could fire him...

Major Nelson had a great story about an XBox Live multiplayer demo with Bill using Halo 2... Apparently they didn’t make the match private, so a bunch of people they did NOT know joined.

Bill got teabagged. And apparently, thought it was hilarious.

So, think what you will... He seems nice enough to me...

I watched it, jpm, and Bill just sort of sits there. That’s pretty much his default look about most things when I’ve seen him live, so I can’t see that it says anything about his sense of humor.

I’ll certainly admit that he needs someone else to write his jokes. But just letting people make fun of him in those videos bespeaks some ability to laugh at himself.
