"Asian-Babe" - the left’s blatant bigotry
Posted by: McQ on Saturday, January 12, 2008

I'm getting to where I have no patience with the left claiming it is the right and only the right where racists and bigots are found (especially as I watch the charges hurled around about the Clinton campaign pertaining to Obama).

This particular letter to the editor is obviously not from a Republican. So, you tell me, is this description of Michelle Malkin necessary to the letter writer's point?
Re: The Commentary page column "Top Story of 2007: The surge, the military, and the news media" by syndicated columnist Michelle Malkin (A-J, Dec. 30).

Bush's Asian-babe PR shill does it again, extolling the glories of the "surge."
PR shill? Fair game. That's an opinion. But what has "asian-babe" to do with anything at all? Seems a perfect example of leftist race and gender bigotry at best.

Anyone who disagrees with the left is fair game for any sort of racist, homophobic or sexist slur. Also, calling Michelle Malkin a shill for Bush is incredibly stupid, since she’s been viciously critical of him on a large number of issues.

"Asian-babe" doesn’t offend me, anymore than someone calling me a "potato-eating whisky-swilling Mick" offends me. It makes me laugh.

But calling Malkin a "PR shill" for Bush is just stupid. Did anyone think that during the immigration reform battle?

I don’t even know what the derogatory term for a Filipino woman is, but I don’t think that "Asian-babe" qualifies as derogatory, in racial or gender terms.

Should it? Just because it vaguely identifies her ethnic background and notes the fact that she’s hot?

Let’s say that Malkin was Chinese instead of Filipino, and someone called her a "slant-eyed Chin c**t," like the inhabitants of the Usenet sewers might do, now that would be offensive.

But "Asian-babe?"

Is it sexist when I call Ann Coulter "the leggy babe who gives no quarter?"

I agree with Martin that "Asian babe" is pretty mild stuff, except to note that the left would scream ’racist’ at any conservative who dared to characterize an Asian female liberal using the same phrase. That kind of talk is just the tip of the iceberg of the left’s hate-filled bigotry. I’ve seen the same thing and worse on other leftist blogs which Michelle did not cite. You can see the left reveal their true colors when minorities stray from the liberal plantation. Since liberals feel comfortable calling black conservatives "Uncle toms", then what’s the surprise to see that others on the left would go after Michelle Malkin for being an "Asian whore" who "shoots ping pong balls" out of her snapper?

huh?

What is wrong with "Asian babe"?

Asia is a geographic place. How is that insulting or bigoted?
A "babe" is often somewhat complementary.
Sounds to me that you are twisting yourself into a pretzel in order to find some way in which a poor rightwinger can be seen as a victim of hate speech or something.

And geez, a letter to some editor. Equals the "voice of the left".

If this is level you need to operate on, then you really are making the opposite point than what you intend. I.e. there really isnt much on the "left" to object to on these matters, if this is the example you need to trumpet...

I don’t either but the closest I can think of is "flip", that’s what they used to call my husband, who is Filipino. It’s on approximately the same offensiveness level as "mick" or "jap".
Let’s say that Malkin was Chinese instead of Filipino, and someone called her a "slant-eyed Chin c**t,"
As I recall, they already have. She gets some pretty vicious hate mail.

I think "Asian-babe" is revealing of state of mind, but doesn’t rise to the level of bigotry.

My favourite, which she has quoted is, "you O-city Wh*re"...thereby bringing a bit of racism and misogyny into play. I’m amazed that anyone on the Left would know about “O-city" but mayhap as a member of the Navy, to avoid the Army, they took a cruise to the Philippines, who knows?

Well, she is a babe. But calling her "Bush’s Asian-babe PR shill" is CLEARLY intended to marginalize her. And if "Asian" didn’t contribute to the marginalization (instead of, oh, I don’t know, her name), why was it included? Nobody includes references to Ann Coulter’s race when they try to marginalize her. Why is that?

Full disclosure: I’ve ALWAYS thought Michelle Malkin was a babe.

That is pretty mild compared to the stuff that gets slung at Michelle.

So given that the left is behind most of that other stuff, I don’t think it is much of a stretch to make that statement

Context, context, context.

Why do you suppose I asked the question, "what has "asian-babe" to do with anything at all"? And why is it no one has attempted to answer it?

"Is it sexist when I call Ann Coulter "the leggy babe who gives no quarter?""

If your own standards would cause you to accuse someone else who says the same thing of being sexist, then yes. It could certainly be fairly characterized as treating her as a physical sex object rather than dealing with her ideas and statements. If Malkin and Coulter were models who used their physical appearance then it would be fair, I suppose, but they are in the public arena because of their intellectual accomplishments.

ROFLMAO. Certainly as far as Coulter goes. Malkin is somewhat better, and "Asian babe" is objectionable in the context. But she is a Bush PR shill. So, for that matter, is Q&O—and given what she’s written in the past, she doesn’t have much right to complain. You’d do better to stick to those "uncle tom" quotes.

So, conservatives can call Julianne Malveaux "Clinton’s African-babe shill," and no one from the left would complain?

I didn’t think so.

Tano and kishnevi, you’re a pair of hypocrites.

If kishnevi is a female, would it be okay to call her an "idiot-babe" PR shill for Stalinism?

I think the key point is that she is a conservative visible minority and that is all the difference.

Well, I don’t have a problem dealing with her ideas and statements, even while noticing her physical appearance. If you look at the covers of her books she doesn’t seem to have a problem presenting her physical appearance along with her ideas.

If, for instance, I thought that Helen Thomas could actually think, instead of calling her an obstreperous hag, I might refer to the wisdom of the wizened hag, Helen Thomas.

If my take on someone’s physical presence offends someone, what do they do when they open a newspaper and find cartoons full of caricatures? I can’t draw but with words. That’s what I do.

But she is a Bush PR shill.
If you actually believe Malkin is some sort of shill for Bush you:

A. Don’t know what "shill" means

B. Don’t know much about Malkin

C. Are a BDS-infected leftist who thinks anyone who doesn’t hate Bush with the same blind, unreasoning hatred as you, must be a shill for him.

D. All of the above

It’s obvious that anyone who would call Ms Malkin a shill doesn’t read what she’s written. She could hardly be more anti-administration on amnesty and the DHS, just to pick two obvious topics.

Some people don’t let facts get in the way of an opinion.

Race, ethnicity, sex, economic status.....groups,groups,groups. After 50 years of group identity politics, is it any wonder that the left are mostly bigots? Group identity is just another way of saying us or them.

Babe barely covers it. Major hottie
