Really? This is not the dynamic I sense.

The right wing will attack Obama because he is black. The attack will be waged on several levels, of course. Some wingers will call him a "n*gger." Others will make more subtle attacks against his race. But the bottom line will be this: Obama is black, therefore, wingnuts should not vote for him.

Obviously, the right wing will attack Obama on racial grounds. It’s not a question of if, but of how. Some attacks will be more subtle than others. But the message will be the same: Barack is "black" or a "minority," therefore "decent" people should not vote for him. I suspect that if Obama becomes the nominee, the "N" word will become respectful terminology among the Republican right (not that it isn’t now - "Macaca".) After all, this is war, and God forbid a black person become President.

The neat thing is that the country is becoming less racist. So the wingnut appeals to race will have less of an effect. But that’s all the GOP has to offer against Barack.

Sad, old, tired and racist. Today’s right wing.

No, MK, it’s people like YOU that keep us sane people from voting for D’s, color notwithstanding.

The irony of mkultra’s rant is that you might think the party that supported slavery in the civil war to resisting the passage of civil rights bills to promoting continued dependence on the government would be considered the racist party. But not according to mk’s logic I see.

Sounds like projection. Most of the overt racism we see today comes from the left, which believes that racist, sexist, and homophobic attacks are fine to use against political opponents. Ask any minority who happens to be a conservative, or look at the types of political attacks used against them.

Exactly. Whenever I get thoroughly fed up with the Republican Party, the realization that utterly clueless nuts like mk support the Democrats, makes me a lot more comfortable continuing to vote Republican.

If by black, you actually mean socialist substituting charisma and catch phrases for his lack of experience or any tangible accomplishments that would qualify him for the position that he is seeking, then, you would be correct.

MK dearest,

to paraphrase Dean Wormer, "Fat, drunk and crazy is no way to go through life."

what’s interesting is how the argument is already being framed by racists on the left like Mkultra:

The question will never be that the Right will not vote for Obama because we disagree with him politically, or that we believe his dangerous ’foreign policy’ will seriously hurt this country, or that he has no experience whatsoever. Nope. The argument, as he sees it, is specifically one of race, nevermind that the Republicans elevated the first black and first black female to SecState, nevermind that the Republicans lobbied Colin Powell to run for POTUS in 2000. After all, the only true black is one with a ’D’ at the end of their name.

Mkultra, you represent all that is wrong with this country: your petty, rancerous, dishonest, cowardly, a communist, and a racist bigot. This country has absolutely no room for bigots such as yourself.

I truly hope you leave this country and take your hate with you.

There may be people who don’t vote for Obama because he is black, but most of them will not be Republicans. It’s not there are not racist Republicans, there are plenty of them, but Obama would not get their vote if he was as white Edgar Winter. There are people who would vote Democrat, but won’t vote for Obama, for no OTHER reason than that he is black.

For Republicans to place any kind of significance on Obama’s race would be a total waste of campaign resources, the people who won’t for vote for Obama for this reason don’t need any more information. The people who won’t vote for Obama because he is a Democrat don’t need any more information, except perhaps persuasion to show up for not so conservative McCain. This campaign will be all about moderate Republicans, independents, and conservative Democrats. Republicans will have a three flank front, one going after leaning Obama voters who would vote for McCain, in order to get them to switch to McCain, the second going after Obama voters who would not vote for McCain, attempting to douse their passion so they stay home. And the third, attempting to increase the passion of McCain voters, so they show up.

This General election will be all about passion. McCain might poll within the margin of error in opinion polls, but at this moment, you might see as much as 30% MORE Obama voters showing up, creating an Obama landslide. McCain’s only chance is to try and change this dynamic, and/or hope that time and circumstances change the momentum.

I do have one anecdote that I found interesting, and that’s a person who I know socially who I believed to be a total racist, the kind of person that throws around the N word and likes to tell awful racist jokes. This guy is voting for Obama???

I don’t know what to make of that, other than perhaps the guy was raised in an atmosphere where that kind of thing was acceptable, but he doesn’t actually base his decisions on race.

Whatever the case, it surprised the heck out of me and could mean something in the larger picture.

Oh, and he claims to be a registered independent (unaffiliated).

So is it NOT RACIST to vote for Obama ONLY because he’s black? White Liberal Guilt is a powerful motivator. Or what about blacks who won’t vote for him because he’s only partially black? Racist?

Capn Joe.... I believe the quote is ’fat, drunk, and STUPID, is no way to go through life’ ;-) But it definitely applies to MK.

MK - what happened to you? You used to bring game when you came in here. We disagreed with you, but you at least had something to consider. Lately? You’re a whiney little b!tch offering nothing but lame canards. I believe the old basketball saying is ’come strong or don’t come at all!’.

I suppose it is, on some level, but I would distinguish between negative racism (I hate some color of people) and positive racism ( I love my color of people).

There are a whole lot of people who vote based on positive racism (or some "ism") and I don’t use the term positive as in "good", just to differentiate from negative.

George Bush did well in part because people thought that he was "like them". I guess that was the drolling moron vote? (relax, it’s sarcasm, I don’t really think Bush is a drooling moron, in fact, I have never seen him drool)

I don’t like that people make decisions like this, but it’s nothing new, and hardly worth commentary.

yes, that is why I said I paraphrased it. There had to be a better reason than just plain stupidity.

No, it is racism on any level. There’s no difference between the two groups that you proposed. On one hand, one group hates other people and discriminates against them (won’t vote for in this case); on the other, one claims to love his people at the detriment of the other groups (votes for his "people" based upon skin color and not merit). The end result is the same. Both sides are voting based upon the color of someone’s skin. I understand that you are not equating positive with good, but I don’t buy this argument. It’s all negative (hate), whether one is voting against one color or only for another. "I don’t hate people of other races... I just love my race much more". Every racist alive would use this argument. They would all see their racism as the "positive" type, which doesn’t really exist.

It sounds like a convenient way of saying Republicans won’t vote for Obama, because they are the negative (hate) racists, but those supporting Obama because they are of the same race are positive (love) racists.

Exactly. Would someone argue that voting for McCain because he is white is "positive" racism?

Voting for McCain because he is white is no different than voting for Obama because he is black.

In other words, voting for someone because of his skin color is just voting against the other guy because of his skin color.

I think you have all missed my point.

The standard reversal tactic just doesn’t apply, and really, never has. It is simply a faulty comparison to simply replace the word black with white and call it a valid comparison. White people in America are not an ethnic group, as black people ARE. And ethnic groups consistently favor their own ethnicities. While it is obviously not acceptable to suggest that you should vote for someone that is white, no one quibbles about candidates asking their ethnic bretheren to vote for them.

Here is a video of an Irish group stating clearly that as Irish people, they are supporting a fellow Irishman, John McCain.

Racism?

Maybe, but not the same kind of racism as white supremacy racism, but, I believe this ethnic favoring is the same as black people supporting what they consider to be an ethnic brother. Again, I don’t think this is good, (Irish or black) but I do not think it is remotely as bad as the white supremacist racism.

Mitt Romney garnered almost 100% of the Mormon vote.
