Rats. Ship. Sinking
Posted by: McQ on Thursday, February 28, 2008

The USS Hillary Clinton is going down, the rats are beginning to jump, and the Captain they blame for their demise, the guy who never saw the iceberg named Obama, is named Mark Penn. Harold Ickes (whose last name has always appropriately described my feelings about him):
Harold Ickes definitely doesn’t buy the argument that Mark Penn isn’t responsible for everything that has happened to the Hillary Clinton campaign.

“Mark Penn has run this campaign,” said Ickes in a brief phone interview this morning. “Besides Hillary Clinton, he is the single most responsible person for this campaign.

“Now, he has been circumscribed to some extent by Maggie Williams,” said Ickes, who then pointed out that that was only a recent development.

When asked about the assertion by one senior Clinton official the campaign was effectively run by committee, diluting Penn’s authority, Ickes was incredulous.

“I don’t know what campaign you’re talking about,” said Ickes. “I have been at meetings where he introduces himself as the campaign’s chief strategist. I’ve heard him call himself that many times, say, ‘I am the chief strategist.’”
I don't doubt that Mark Penn had a big hand in the campaign's problems, but wasn't this a joint effort by a good number of supposedly seasoned campaigners, to include both Hillary and Bill Clinton (there's no question that Hillary was a major factor in Bill's two runs for president so it's hard to argue she has no experience running a presidential campaign).

Nope, this is shaping up as an event with a typical Clintonian ending - it will be the fault of someone else, and Ickes and his ilk will take to the lifeboats and declare, "not my fault" as the ship with Captain Penn goes down.

If there is one good outcome from all of this, it is the left, or at least a good portion of it, seems to have discovered that the right was correct about the Clintons all this time and they have just now been able to admit it.

Ha! So why do many still defend the Carter presidency as great, arguing that all would have seen this as fact if Carter’s rule not been interrupted by 8 years of Reagan. The left is exceptionally good at shirking responsibility.

I used to work for Ickes long ago and can attest that the widely-held opinion that Harold is a total creep, loo-zer and butthole is correct.

The left never owns up to the glaringly obvious fact that people find their candidates and programs of low moral character.

How could they discount the Obama momentum? Imho, it looks like they never really tried to adapt to it. I half believe those in the Clinton campaigners (Clintons, themselves, aside) didn’t mind the paycheck but themselves didn’t really want another 8 years of Clinton either. When its over I think many of them are going to breath a sigh of relief.

I’m no fan of Hillary but I agree that unless this guy can turn back time there wasn’t much he could do. The Clintons hatched this plan in the ’90’s where they’d cherry pick some 1 party state and then she’s be a senator for long enough to pretend she’s serious then run for POTUS. Times have changed. It’s not the 90’s anymore and she’s not getting a pass for being the bosses wife. She’s past her expiration date and they’re the last one to catch on.

Well, he came by it honestly.

His father was even worse.
