More "Silly Season" stuff
Posted by: McQ on Tuesday, March 04, 2008

I'm telling you, if you're in Texas or Ohio and you're a Republican, you need to be voting for Hillary today. Where else are we going to get this sort of fun among Democrats? Dale sends me a link to the following:

A controversial new Hillary Clinton attack ad is causing an Internet stir among critics who claim it deliberately darkens Barack Obama’s skin color.

A posting on the liberal site DailyKos.com shows side-by-side screen grabs of Barack Obama taken during a debate with Clinton in Cleveland last week. The screen grab used in the Clinton ad shows a clearly darker-skinned Obama, prompting some to wonder if it was done to highlight his race.

Clinton spokesman Jay Carson told FOX News that Obama’s image was darkened, as part of a “saturation-desaturation” process typical in commercial production and sent in an example of a Clinton ad featuring the candidate and the original footage of Clinton delivering the campaign speech used in the ad. He said both candidates have done it in their ads, and that there was no ulterior motive behind doing so in the campaign’s most recent ad.
Darkened-gate? You know some things just don't go with -gate but we sure are getting a load of off the wall nonsense here lately (who can forget the recent "NIG" pajamas in a Clinton ad? Oh, yeah, I can.).

So they saturated Obama a little bit too much eh? Heh ... I swear, this just gets more and more amusing as the days go by.

But it is raw meat to the KosKids:
One posting on the DailyKos site, though, charged that while darkening footage may be considered standard practice for political ads trying to “cast the target as sinister,” it is “not an acceptable excuse.”

“Even if you accept that as normal practice, it’s still a dirty one, and it takes on a more charged meaning when you’re using it to attack someone in your own party who’s already fighting against a lot of racism in the false Muslim smears,” the posting said. “This is, at best, the worst of politics as usual.”
The "worst of of politics as usual"? Son, we're talking the Clintons here. You ain't seen nuthin' yet. However, another of the "worst of politics as usual" seems to me to be the Obama denial of contact with the Canadians. But hey, that had to do with a substantive concern and this has to do with race - so obviously race takes precedence.

YEE HAW, this is fun!

Hillary is a racist, Obama is a crook and a liar!

FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT!

Keep it up, the leftnuts will never be able to level charges of racism (or any other "ism") against the right ever again with any credibility.

As a conservative I voted dutifully for Obama. I wont in the general election I am doing my part to work towards Hillary not getting the nomination. I steadfastly believe she will be on the ticket in Nov though I am ensuring that I didnt do anything to help her.

shark, your comment seems to imply they were able to make those charges in the past WITH credibility.

Puh-lease... they bore me.

Heh. Yeah, I was in the same neighborhood as you. And it felt weird. My sentiments were, whatever it takes to keep Hillary out of the White House. So, “as a conservative, I dutifully voted for Barack Obama.”
That’s like saying, “as a Christian, I dutifully sacrificed a goat on the altar of Zul”.

LOL. I always drink on election day, so bare with me…

Good luck with that, McQ.

Let me tell you about my election day experience here in rural SE Texas.
For the past few years that I’ve been voting here in Fort Bend County Texas, it’s gone a lot like this,

Mrs. Stevenson, the eighty year old election volunteer, one of the small company of eighty year old ladies manning the voters booth at the Town of Fairchild’s volunteer fire department, is snoozing quite comfortably with her reading glasses hanging on her nose for dear life, continues undisturbed and unabated as my wife and I enter the facility. The only creature that seems vaguely interested in our presence is Mrs. Stevenson’s ancient Cocker Spaniel “Lady”, who is also barely holding onto consciousness.

”Mrs. Stevenson.” I quietly whisper.
“Mrs. Stevenson!!” I raise my voice a few decibels.

“Huh! What? Where am I?” She awakens abruptly.

“Mrs. Stevenson. My wife and I would like to vote today.”

“Oh, well that’s fine. Let me find you in the book here…”

“No, Mrs. Stevenson. Allow me. I’ll find it. We have things to do today.”

“That’s fine”

Not today man.
The Republican side of the voter’s facility was as vacant as whorehouse on Sunday. Yet the Dem side actually had a queue. Something Mrs. Stevenson was not prepared for.
And this, in SE TEXAS no less.

And what was particularly funny was, after we voted, one of the volunteers asked us if we were coming back tonight for the caucus.
My wife asked, “What does a caucus involve?”
One of the volunteers said… and I kid you not…, “We don’t know.”
She said, “When you get home, you should Google it.”

I literally fell on the floor laughing.

Once regained pose, I asked…
“Mrs. Stevenson. Do you know what a ‘Google’ is?”
After an extended uncomfortable pause, I turned to Mrs. Stevenson’s pathetic Cocker Spaniel,
“’Lady’, do you know what a ‘Google’ is?”

“Okay, I’ve done my duty. I’m going home to whiskey. You babes keep it sexy.”

They love me down there.

Cheers.

I believe this is the case of the devil you know vs. the devil you don’t. From what I can tell, the devil we don’t know could be far far worse.

Since we’re into analogies, I think you may have made a deal with Stalin to defeat Hitler. I hope the price isn’t over 40 years of cold war.

"Darkened-gate?"

Darkie-gate scans better, and has the bonus of being more offensive.

I am always amazed, and gratifyingly amused, when folks make such a feast of outrage over such thin gruel.

I always drink on election day, so bare with me…

Not on your best day. I will usually bear with you, but this is one hoine that you shall not pogue.

Figured that the easiest explanation was that one was taken when a third party flash went off and the other was right after, or before. They are not the exact same frame, after all. Second thoughts have not really convinced me of any nefarious intent. Color saturation can account for some weird artifacts. I ran a four-color press for a couple of years, and if I had to account for minimal variances like this I’d still be in court. The new schtick is that they also subtly squashed the photo to make his nose look flatter.

Looks like standard re-sizing and emphasis saturation to me.

Looking forward to the new Truther movement though. Should it be called "The Darkening", or "The Blackening."

I demand an inquiry.

I heard on the news that Hillary doesnt believe republicans crossed over and voted for her.

Bill must have given her some of those drugs he smoked but didnt inhale from the 60s.

Oh well. As I stated above I believe that she will still be on the ticket in Nov.

Also I saw that she had not discounted a joint ticket with Obama. I dont see it happening. If I were Obama I wouldnt want her as a VP (the secret service would find him dead in his office from mysterious circumstnaces) and if she is were President she doesnt want anyone that outshines her anywhere around (which is why Bill will be enjoying his girlfriends in Europe ).
