Do the so-far-hypothetical rioters seriously think that getting Obama the nomination on violence and bloodshed is going to endear him to... errr... anybody else?
There’s no way we can allow a nomination process decided by violence to be rewarded with the Presidency, and I still have confidence in the electorate at large will realize that. |

I wanted a heated argument at the Democratic Convention, not a riot! If anything of that kind happens, they’ll only make fools and villains of themselves to no good end. It’s the sort of idiocy symptomatic of adolescent republics like Armenia, not one of the world’s oldest ones.
Such ominous words are, of course, not always borne out. It might all come to nothing, which would leave me feeling very foolish if I were to become too inflamed by the prospect. |

What will be interesting is how Democrat Governor Bill Ritter (with a Democrat controlled state legislature) and Democrat Mayor John Hickenlopper (with his overwhelmingly liberal city council) sets this up. Both the Governor and the Mayor are fairly level-headed, but they are swayed, at times, by what used to be considered left fringe elements. Furthermore, I’m sure that both thought it would be a uncontested Clinton coronation when they campaigned so hard for hosting privileges. I’m hoping for a tight race, if only to force both the Governor’s and Mayor’s hand leading up to the convention.
And one other thing. Wayne Allard’s empty Senate seat is being sought quite liberal Congressman Udall out of Boulder. aAy unseemly rancor at the convention is not going to help his bid - many in-state protesters will likely come from his congressional district. |
