Cycling through life
Posted by: McQ on Monday, March 24, 2008

One of these days, perhaps, we'll recognize the fact that the earth has a cyclic nature and whatever we're seeing today probably has been seen previously and, as you'll see in this 1922 article, was met as a natural phenomenon rather than a harbinger of doom and gloom. And, refreshingly, no one tried to blame it on man.

As far as I can tell, no lowland flooding was reported because of the large ice melt.

Pdf here.

Obviously, the AGW deniers had the upper hand in those dark days. Isn’t it better now that we have enterred the brave new age of consensus!

here is another link that shows articles from that notorious right wing rag the New York Times. 150 years of climate change articles. Was it warming or was it cooling, the authors can’t make up their minds

too funny, man

Can’t wait to see our favorite leftoids head explode from the pressure of the cognitive dissonance.

Time to call on the Goreacle !

The oceans are not behaving.
The clouds are not behaving.

Time to call on the Goreacle !

.. and kick him in the ...

Seriously .. AL Gore is AOL/MIA, so I suppose he is working on a new book.
Worse yet, he has showed his cowardice by not defending the AGW line.
It’s settled science .. Al Gore is a dope.

An early spring freeze put Macon [Georgia] in the weather history book today as the low dropped to record low of 27 degrees.

The previous record for March 25th was 29 degrees recorded in 1968.

You guys are no fun! You are raining on their parade man, you are harshing their buzz! All the Goreiacs had these fever dreams of using climate fear to regulate every single little aspect of our lives!

I posted this link in the Warming thread back down the queue: It’s Australian geologist Bob Carter examining global temperatures over long historical periods and finding nothing unusual about the current fluctuations, showing them to be consistent with those of this interglacial period (app. the past 10,000 years).

The presentation is spread across four YouTubes.

Carter makes a pretty damning case that the current AGW frenzy is about, literally, nothing at all. That there is nothing unusual in the small level of climate change we’ve seen and that the Holocene (current interglacial) climate system is self-correcting.

I’ve checked Carter out and from what I can tell his science and academic bona fides are excellent.

Guys, think Y2K hysteria, same hysteria, same actual danger, different name.

Dr. Hoel, who has just returned, reports the location
of hitherto unknown coal deposits on the eastern shores
of Advent Bay-deposits of vast extent and superior
quality
. This is regarded as of first importance, as so
far most of the coal mined by the Norwegian companies
on those islands has not been of the best quality.
Sure, when your expedition is financed by BIG COAL, it’s no suprise that you get these lies about the earth being warmer in 1922. If I were Dr. Hoel, or should I say Dr. WHORE, I would snap to when my PLANET RAPING masters demanded I sacrifice my scientific integrity so they could line their pockets AT THE EXPENSE OF FUTURE GENERATIONS.

Y2K was mostly real. Not the craziest claims, but the more mundane ones were real. Y2K had the virtue of having a productive, verifiable outlet for the hysteria, and consequently the big problems mostly failed to materialize, because they were fixed. If you look, many little problems still did materialize. And we actually saw the first Y2038 problems this year, which is the year that Unix timestamps roll over. 30-year mortgage calculators were starting to fail (2008 + 30 = 2038). (Hopefully by then we’ll all be on 64-bit time which doesn’t fail until after the heat death of the universe.)

Global warming, even completely ignoring skeptics, doesn’t work like that. If we waved a magic wand and eliminated our CO2 output this year, and even if the climate worked exactly the way the modellers say, the temperature could still rise due to natural variations and various residual heat sinks that would hypothetically take years to drain back out.

(I say hypothetically because of the recent news that the oceans aren’t actually warming, which is by far the single most damning story about AGW I’ve ever heard. If they can’t "find" the heat, which is thermodynamically not really inclined to "hide", GW, let alone AGW, is in deep, deep trouble. I’m not ready to come to a conclusion yet, but this is definitely a big problem with the GW theories that needs some addressing.)

Wait just a minute! Professor Scott Erb told me I should believe that AGW is real because a lot of PhDs said so. He thinks it’s too complicated for us to discuss.

The other thing is the Hungarian scientist who pointed out that the GW models are based upon flawed equations: derived from differential equations with the assumption of easy boundary conditions.

If this is correct, the models are all crap.

If this is correct, the models are all crap.
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) was established by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and was tasked to evaluate the risk of climate change caused by human activity. Their 2001 report stated:

In Climate Research and modelling, we should recognize that we are dealing with a coupled non-linear chaotic system, and therefore the ong-term prediction of future climate states is not possible. (IPCC-TAR, 2001, page 774)

This finding has not changed in the intervening years. And yet these very same climate models are used to this day for long term predictions. Some of the major problems identified in the 2001 report in these models are:

- They do not consider observed solar dimming and post-1985 brightening.
- They do not take account the existance of water vapor dimmers.
- They do not accurately model the role of clouds.

In fact they do not deal with the one single major factor in climate change, water vapor, at all. And yet these models are cited with feverish regularity for their predictions of the gloom and doom of climate change.

the models are all crap.
But most scientists agree human forced global warming is a problem.
I’m against government regulation, but you cannot deny that man is having an effect on the environment that may be devastating for our children.

(Man!!!! that was easy! I like this side of the argument!!!!!!)

That’s it. Nature must be working on a bad clock.

I wonder if the Goreacle has any experience with time pieces ?

go back a little bit more and remember the end of the ozone. So what happened there ....
derived from differential equations with the assumption of easy boundary conditions.
Yes,an infinitely deep atmosphere. Those boundary conditions are the only sort that undergraduates can do and thus what most of the science was based on, I guess.

Capt - we covered the ozone hole the other day, you know, the one we were going to close by banning Freon/CFC’s.
The one that NASA announced hit a record size this year.

Prof Erb assured us that the Montreal treaties took the necessary governmental action to fix THAT problem, and by golly, that’s evidence enough for me!

Next!
