That’s symbolic of Tehran’s split personality. The capital of a moralistic, conservative Islamic Republic, yet a city full of drugs, prostitutes, alcohol, and vice. Ultimately, I think Iran’s theocrats won’t be able to hold on to power, especially if the US were to make moves to normalize relations and take away the boogey man they use to get the country behind them. Or, perhaps that’s WHY they provoke crises with the US, it keeps the public from starting to demand more freedom. |

Well I see this as a mistake, the chief was just under-cover, trying to get a handle on the full scope of the city’s immorality.... |

What made it immoral was that he was engaged with six women. The sharia maximum, of course, is four wives. (Remember that the Shia version of sharia recognizes "temporary" marriages. So he could be temporarily married to four of the prostitutes. But it was numbers five and six that got him into trouble. |

Since they already have riots and demonstrations in Iran, I don’t think the US boogey man works as well as you think.
And if they are the ones provoking the crises, what can we do about it? If we concede by normalizing relations without any concession on their part, won’t the ruling party just crow even louder that their methods are the best?
We already have offered all manner of direct talks and hints at normalization. All they have to do is SUSPEND their nuclear plans. The EU offered incentives as well. No dice.
Soft power is great and all, but once you’ve offered all the economic carrots and stick, to no avail, its reached its limit.
I’m not advocating attacking them, but I’d suggest they will hang on to power for a long more while until it becomes even more unbearable. (See North Korea, Zimbabwe, Afghanistan, etc.)

How the hell does the POLICE CHIEF not know about a raid??? It’s likely that the police chief had already either pissed off the wrong person, or outlived his usefullness. His prediliction for prostitutes was more than likely already well known and only used as an excuse to bring an undesirable to account. That is why he didn’t know in advance, it wasn’t a random raid at all, but one designed specifically to remove him from his job so he could be replaced by someone more compliant. |

This is old news - prostitution, etc.
What will make BIG Headlines in Iran is when Iran discovers the First Iranian homosexual.
Oh, that will be nasty, given Islam’s preference for cleaving appendages for the sinner.
Maybe in a soccer stadium? I would love to have the concession selling field glasses for that event. Yes, Islam, the religion of Piece. |

This story is almost as good ..
US judge in DUI rethinks quittingThe arrest had caused an uproar, not only because a member of the judiciary had been accused of a crime, but because, as his lawyer confirmed yesterday, US Bankruptcy Court Judge Robert Somma was wearing a woman’s dress when he was involved in the car accident that triggered the charges. |
