Health Care: Restoring my faith in the intelligence of the American public

 Or at least enough of it to matter:
Twenty-nine percent (29%) of American adults favor a national health insurance program overseen by the Federal Government. A Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that 39% oppose such a government-led initiative while 31% are not sure.
Of course those 31% are the problem, but a 10 point lead doesn't hurt. But it sure seems to shoot a hole in the Clinton/Obama "health care strategy" as a winner.
The survey also found that 46% believe the quality of care would decrease under a national health insurance program while 16% believe that quality would increase. Twenty percent (20%) say the quality of care would remain about the same while 18% are not sure.
Which means 46% have enough experience with government to understand that it will never have the incentive (usually provided by competition in the form of an alternative) to improve things when it has the whole enchilada in its clutches and they understand that's a bad thing.
At the same time, 42% believe the cost of health care would increase while 25% would expect prices to go down.
Heh ... they've seen the fiscal disasters 'government estimates' have led too in the past and they're not buying. Good.

All in all, pretty good numbers and makes clear that one of the top issues for Democrats isn't a particularly popular one among voters - thanks goodness.

Oh, and as an aside, look at the title of the Rasmussen article. Personally I favor one that says "39% Oppose National Health Insurance Overseen by Federal Government". But that's just me.

Illegal immigration polls with more opposition and across party lines. But the best we get are proposals to institutionalize the problem rather than fix the problem.

They do what they want. And unfortunately McCain wants to be spoken of highly by the media talking heads.

The ironic thing about this is that those that are trying to push for national health care will never have to use it and deal with the associated problems.

I would prefer to choose my own coverage and the freedom to seek my own doctors and decide when and if I need to have something taken care of and how. The idea of being told who I can get my medical care from and when is down right frightening. I don’t wish to have the government anymore involved in my personal business that it already is.

Consider that the D’s like this issue because of their business supporters who would love to not have to fund health care for their workers. Lots of money coming in for the elections - including congress. After that they can turn their attention to either selling it or ramming down our throats, like illegal immigration benefits.

I think the business leaders who think this is the solution are being very short-sighted, but its understandable that they think making individuals handle their own insurance need is not politically viable.

The problem is that once the state takes over, the cost is still there, and they will have to find people to pay for those costs. Guess who will pay the increased taxes? Either the companies through higher corp. taxes or high income people.

Did you see the Bunk study stating 2/3 of doctors in America want National Health Care. The doctors who did this study also conducted one in 2002 and found that the majority of doctors did not want national health care, the problem with this is that the 2 question surveys drastically differ in there 2nd question. I found this article, 60% of Physicians Surveyed Oppose Switching to a National Health Care Plan, It’s worth a read.

This study is 100% Bunk!
