Baghdad?

"Bloody Weekend: 32 Shot, 2 Stabbed, 6 Dead."

A violent and deadly weekend continues in Chicago. At least 12 people have been shot, two of them killed, since Saturday morning. Two others were stabbed in a home invasion. This comes after at least 20 people were shot, four of them killed, from Friday night through early Saturday.

I think the American presence is only inflaming the tensions...we need a reapid and immediate withdrawl from this area. Already US prestige and power is in a real decline by our particiaption in this debacle.

I’m anticipating more calls for stricter gun control. Because obviously the laws outlawing guns in Chicago have been so effective.

Without looking at the answer I say:

Any American city where the left has been in control for decades? I’d venture Detroit if I had to be pinned down.

****

Having just looked at the answer, I get 1/2 credit. But I’m also sure Detroit racked up just as bad a body count

I guessed Caracas, but then again, the death toll was rather low if that were the case.

I demand an immediate withdrawal from Chicago.

Obama can do for Iraq what he has done for Chicago.

Unpossible.

Chicago is gun free. They’ve done more to remove guns off the street than any other city in the US.

So, this proves they just need to try harder.

so, when can I expect Senator Obama to call for the complete withdrawal of Americans from Chicago?

I believe tha Senator Obama shuld make a public statement that if elected POTUS he will begin to immediately withdraw from Chicago, and be completely out of Chicago within 16 months.

... be completely out of Chicago within 16 months.
Five minutes later, his ’Chicago adviser’ was on CNN announcing a 3-year withdrawal timetable.

The problem isn’t that the gun laws are ineffective: the problem is that the criminals aren’t reading the laws.

I propose that every criminal caught using a gun be sentenced to 12 years of remedial English.

There, that ought to show them.

Here’s Sunday:
LOL! Hook, line and sinker.

Uh, yeah, Retief - Iraq is a warzone.

You guys really are irony impaired, aren’t you?

Oh! You were being ironic? You were mocking your fellow travelers over at wizbang and people who’ve been making this deeply silly comparison for years, were you? Well, in that case I can only say Bravo. You’re right, it really is silly to suggest simmilarities between a warzone and a US major city, isn’t it. Glad to see you on the side of reason.

Wouldn’t know what Wizbang’s been doing for years, Retief - I don’t read it.

So whatever you’ve got going on between your ears in that regard is between you and Wizbang. My guess is you read their posts about as poorly as you read ours.

And, btw, you apparently don’t understand irony any better than the posts you read here.

So, Retief, what you’re saying is, it’s not REALLY the killing that matters, it’s how it’s done.

Okay, just so we can mark down a liberal’s view of the world - mortar attacks and homicide bombs are bad, but shooting and stabbings are okay -
I get ya.

32 deaths in a WAR ZONE, AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! Failure! Debacle! Disaster! Withdraw!

32 deaths in Chicago - nu? So, vhat else is new? How bout dem Cubbies?

gun control laws do not apply to felons. It’s illegal for them to own them but it violates their 5th amendment rights if you require them to register them.

looker, ignoring for a moment your math issues, does the fact that the capital city of a country whose army we crushed and whose government we conquered more than five years ago is still today a warzone really sound like success to you?

No Retief it doesn’t, you may quote me.

Let me ask if you think it’s a good sign that we have 32 deaths related to violent crime in a city that’s NOT officially in a war zone.

Clearly WE can’t control Chicago Retief, and you expect us to have some magical absolute control over Baghdad?

No, we cant. I’m part of a sniper crew set up in the California foothills and we’ve pretty much kept the enemy at bay here. We’ll call for reinforcements when needed. Thanks.

looker, I beleive if you look carefully you’ll see that while 32 were shot, only 6 are dead. Still not good, but not quite at Baghdad levels of violence. Give the gangs in Chicago AKs, mortars, and rockets, divide the police force proportionately among them, and build 12 foot walls between their neighborhoods, and you start to approach the situation in Baghdad. Then have chinese troops come to take the side of one of the gangs.

When it’s the size and population of California? And is being fed by the militias of Arizona, Nevada, and Oregon?

Six weeks. Tops.

Sheesh.

Yeah not 32 dead. I agree I totally dropped the ball on that.

I could argue 32 shot and stabbed without them being dead still has some meaning (yeah, the Iraqis are better shots maybe?).

It’s not like the violence was less, it’s the outcome of the violence that makes it appear less.

I suspect that Baghdad’s EMTs aren’t up to Chicago standards. On the other hand, they were actually dealing with a couple of hundred wounded last weekend.
