Just an observation in passing -
Posted by: McQ on Wednesday, April 23, 2008

I was reading a Joe Klein post the other day and noticed this:
Energy: Obama seems either bummed or pissed or exhausted. He could be near death and still be a pretty good speaker, but he's very much off his game right now. Clinton, by contrast, is on fire—as energetic and passionate as I've seen her.
This was prior to the vote in PA and Klein was following the campaigns around remarking on his impressions. I would note, watching the debate, Obama certainly seemed off his game there. And there's the recent "waffle" incident as well.

15 months of campaigning is an eternity, no one will argue otherwise, but you have to wonder, is this just a bit of a slump for Obama, or is the campaign beginning to take an irreversible toll?

Democrats have to be wondering, because it isn't going to get easier after the nomination fight is finished.

It’s a good question. My own take is that Obama is an authentic person, takes this stuff seriously (internalizes it) and is not yet wise to the ways of a real politician, like both the Clintons are - with the Used Car Salesperson’s ability to turn every wreck into a phony smile, glad hand, pat on the back, and a sale to the hapless buyer.

Reagan was the finest practioner of this effortless glide through the massive, awesome responsibility of governing. He knew his sole role was to get the rubes into the big tent, where their pockets would be picked empty in the darkness of Republican "Big Tent", "It’s Your Money" ideology, by the Free Market P.T. Barnums who are like persistent Zombie Worms in the soil of American history.

Will Obama learn to "Make the Sale."

Stay Tuned.

Frankly, I find it a bit worrying that Obama is getting so beaten up. If the campaign trail can exact that kind of toll on the youngest and supposedly most energetic candidate, what would four years in office do to him? Which Obama is going to face down Ahmadinejad—the "pissed and exhausted" Obama or the charming, statesman-like Obama? I think that’s a legitimate question for voters to ask.

I’m thinking that he might have believed that there would be no scrutiny. That his racialist background as a member of that church, for instance, would be off-limits because in the world that Obama lives in on the Left it is off-limits.

The signal that he might have believed that serious scrutiny of his background wouldn’t happen comes from Michelle Obama. Have you seen her speeches? She engages in this sort of hard didactic motivational lecturing style, with a face on that looks like that of the head nurse at a re-education center, that suggests that she and Barack will be the one’s doing all the scrutinizing, and that you need to know that up front.

You need to know that under Michelle and Barack you’ll need to know what you owe them as your leaders.

In other words,

-or-

Obama is Britney Spears after
a) Marrying KFed,
b) Lesbian kiss with Madonna,
c) Crotch shot,
d) all of the above?

What a typical no-brainer talking point put out by the Right Wing Noise Machine. You are doing your work well. Remember, Don’t Think. Just Repeat!

At least your castigation reveals your tacit agreement that having racial stereotypes is a problem (Thrown under the bus for having stereo-typic thoughts).

Again, the context of the snippet is AVOIDED LIKE THE PLAGUE, and only the snippet is offered as the entity.

The Republo-Puritan candidate would be expected to say "My grandmother NEVER had a racist thought in her life." That would be accepted as gospel by the Believers, even though it is impossible for anyone to know another’s total life thoughts.

Welcome to the new reality. Speaking honestly and openly. It’s like giving arsenic laced kool-aid to the bigots and holy pretenders in every region of the country.

I can understand the difficulty faced by those living in a constructed reality protected by propaganda, half-truths, bigotry, hate, emotion based deviseness, and just plain ideological horse manner.

Times will be tough as the new wrecking balls of reality crash the Buckley Baloney Castle of the filthy rich over the heads of the Moat Warriors.

Duck!

So, John Stanley, what do you think of Obama equating his grandmother, who sometimes gets nervous around young black men, with his pastor, who tells his congregation that the white government created AIDS to kill off black people? The two aren’t equivalent, but Obama tries to sugar-coat his pastor’s vitriol by claiming they are.

What do you think of the character of a man who would compare the woman he raised him to a race-baiting bomb-thrower like Wright?

Take snippets out of John Stanley’s post, and put them in quotes, and run them through Google. the whole thing, by that method reveals itself as a long post of nthing but liberal catch phrases. Not an original idea in the bunch.

I used to be amazed by this stuff. These days I’m just mildly amused.

The sales "conference" scene from Glengarry Glen Ross comes to mind right about now.

"You call this abuse? If you can’t take this how do you handle the abuse you get on a sit!? If you don’t like it leave!"

Apropos to this case: if a candidate cannot handle the pressure and up-and-downs of the campaign how does he expect to deal with master manipulators like Ahmadinejad, Putain or Kim Jong Il? The crucible of the campaign is essential in weeding out the candidates with weak constitutions.

You are, at the same time, both missing and proving the point that Obama is putting forth.

Reality at one level is not a community-based single shared entity. Everyone’s primal reality of existence is a very private world experienced inside every individual’s cranium. The conversation in every person’s mind is a deeply personal experience, created, shaped, twisted and forged by that individual’s interactions with the outside world, and by the ‘tribal’ wisdom of experience passed on down to them.

It is the great myth of the conservative movement that we are each capable of knowing what it is like to be in another’s frame of reality, and which thereby enables US to JUDGE THEM by the values we have been indoctrinated to believe as the ONLY reality that exists.

The great strength of the liberal movement is that, while it is impossible to think from another person’s personal experience, there is at least the realized empathy that the other person has a different world view, and that is insane and immoral to force your reality onto them.

Slavery, broken families, humiliation, denied education, discrimination, first illegal, and then subtle … these are but a small part of the reality of the Black American. You and I are simply incapable of even the slightest sense of what it is like to carry that centuries-in-the- accumulation moral outrage in that present in almost all long time Americans who descended from kidnapped from Africa human beings.

The conservative voices I hear are the latter day version of “If they have no bread, let them eat cake.”

But don’t be afraid, the liberals will not chop your head off, for we also understand that you live in your own private, angry, bigoted, and venal version of an every-person for themselves world. Much like a primal caveman’s existence, sensing that everything which is different is a mortal threat.

It sounds like you are either very well trained, or fearful of the possibility that some very uncomfortable piece of researchable information may cross your path.

I read what conservative claims all the time, and the uniformity of the arguments and phrases that are supposed to pass as original thinking, reveal nothing more than a pack of yelping trained seals all honking on the same one-note horn - or as I created the phrase - Moat Warriors of the Filty Rich.

Why don’t you google Halliburton - No Bid Contracts - Non-US, Off-shore Corporation ... If you have the courage.

This is the most idiotic screed I’ve read in a while. Centuries in the accumulation? Dude - whatever happened to my ancestors centuries ago has ZERO impact on what I’m dealing with today. You are making an excuse. If what you wrote was accurate, there would be no well adjusted, successful blacks in America. But last time I looked, there are millions of successful black people here. How’d that happen? Are they capable? Or are they just ’sell out uncle Tom’s’?

I took this challenge. It didn’t take courage, just the desire to be amused. The results for that search are nothing but anti-bush screeds on websites and blogs published by BDS liberals (there is one link to the Wash. Post blog by liberal douchebag William Arkin who said that American troops were mercenaries and that they were lucky not to be spit on). They all share one common trait, they are devoid of any facts supporting their non-sensical claims. There is even a link to a PBS interview of Henry Waxman where he leveled the now discredited claims that Halliburton (actually it was its subsidiary, KBR) had ripped off the US Army by purchasing gasoline in Kuwait when it could have been obtained at a lower price elsewhere. However, the truth was that the Army instructed KBR to obtain the gasoline from Kuwait. That typifies the quality of the criticism emanating from those sites and from the left in general.

Yes, Feinstein is very much in support of the U.S. emulating Israeli’s 40 year plus policy of Invade, Occupy, and Kill all the Terrorists. As are many Democrats. 73 Senators gave Bush permission to go after "terrorists" in Iran. That is more permission than he needs, and far more permission than Israel needs to bomb other countries at will to protect themselves. Israel- with between 75-150 nuclear weapons - refuses to let another country in the region to build even one. (Much of the Israeli technology was stolen from the U.S.)

The Israel Lobby (AIPAC) and many other power groups in the U.S. believe it is America’s job to make the Middle East safe for Israeli aggression.

The strategy of Kill all the terrorists who oppose our occupation is a failed mission. Only the power of AIPAC coupled with the lust for the Iraqi oil fields resulted in the Shock and Awe Lies of the Iraq invasion. But make no mistake, the same policy which has failed Israel since 1967 will fail the U.S. even more dramatically. It didn’t work very well for the Crusaders either.

It is a mistake to think that all liberals share the same world view. Many liberals believe it is more important to put America’s needs before Israel’s expansion.

The M.E. is also a great example of one group (the expansionist Israelis) trying to force their "reality" onto the "reality" of the citizens of the Occupied Lands. For anyone to say there is only one reality in the M.E., and only one reality in the U.S. is display one’s lack of understanding human and social dynamics.

Dick Cheney bought KBR for Halliburton in the mid 90’s. They would be in place to receive Billions in No-Bid Contracts from the Pentagon for the occupations already in the works in the 90’s.

They moved their head-quarters off-shore, and are not subject to American Corporate taxes.

Imagine for a second if Al Gore has run those maneuvers - what outrage and moral umbrage that would erupt from the conservatives.

Oh, get over your moral outrage already.

Grandma’s reality advises her a black man may be a physical threat to her.

Wright, knowing of the U.S. government’s immoral experimentation of poor black men with syphilis, legally sanctioned lynchings of black men, makes the concept that the U.S. government unleashed AIDS in the Black community seem within the range of his "reality".

They ARE similar in the way a "learned, conditioned" fear makes it reasonable to suspect further threats- of one type or another.

The film classic Rashomon deals with this universal multiple ealities "reality".

People viewing the same event can present extraordinarily different narratives, based on the full-time filter program running in their own mind’s "inner reality".

There are two Americas (actually far more). The Black America’s Reality, The Southern White, Conservative, Republican’s Reality, and so on.

To say they don’t exist is simply denying reality.

That is the missing dialogue of race in America that Obama is alluding to.

Some so fear discussing it that they deny its existence.

And since fear and division is what keeps those in power - in power, they will do all within their VAST Reality (The Matrix) forming power to make others also believe it doesn’t exist.

That’s quite an accusation for an Obama supporter to make against Obama.

Because the essence of his message, which he unveiled at the ’04 Democratic convention, is that there is only one America.

According to you, Obama’s signal political position is a denial of reality.

I guess it’s a good thing, from that point of view, that he never meant it. We wouldn’t want a presidential candidate to be in the middle of break with reality.

Indeed, when he stood before the country and made that speech declaring himself a transcendent racial reconciliationist, he was still only about a sixteen year member of a racist church being mentored by its racist pastor with racist "black theology."

We know full well that Obama’s reference to "There is only ONE America!" is his call toward the idealistic promise of what America could and should be. But presently is not. If there was no racial schism, why would he be calling for dialogue and healing on understanding both the white’s negative emotions regarding affirmative action, as well as the very grounded in American history abuse of the descendants of kidnapped Africans?

America today is more splintered than ever - to a large degree the result of, additional to usual, manufactured schisms employed by political forces employing divisiveness to distract the tiny but powerful men behind the curtains of American imperialism and class warfare against the middle and lower classes.

In a nation of the filthy rich and cunning powerful, where the masses have the potential to redistribute income and wealth via the ballot box, it is IMPERATIVE that the masses not look into the obscene wealth in the castles of the Waltons and the Hedge Fund gluttons, but instead be convinced that the real enemy are those liberal radicals at the walls of the castle, doing battle with the Moat Warriors of the Filthy Rich, over mostly utterly meaningless and trumped-up divisions.

That is why you likely feel incredibly emotional against the Estate Tax, even though no one I have ever come across who qualifies for the Estate Tax, ever blogs.

That is your mission - to protect the massive, unearned wealth of the Walton clan, even though they will not share a nickel with you. In fact the filthy rich admire liberals like me who are wise enough to at least know what game is being joined, and have nothing but contempt for the easily deceived and bamboozled Street Corner Conservatives and Moat Warriors for the Filthy Rich living in a media created reality - created by billionaires like Mellon, Moon and Murdoch. Do you really think those billionaires specialize in trying to monopolize broadcast and print media because they are literate men ?

WAKE UP DUDE! We, you and I, could be the ONE America Obama is trying to bring into existence.
