Shameless Al Gore
Posted by: McQ on Wednesday, May 07, 2008

From the Business and Media Institute:
Using tragedy to advance an agenda has been a strategy for many global warming activists, and it was just a matter of time before someone found a way to tie the recent Myanmar cyclone to global warming.

Former Vice President Al Gore in an interview on NPR’s May 6 “Fresh Air” broadcast did just that. He was interviewed by “Fresh Air” host Terry Gross about the release of his book, “The Assault on Reason,” in paperback.

“And as we’re talking today, Terry, the death count in Myanmar from the cyclone that hit there yesterday has been rising from 15,000 to way on up there to much higher numbers now being speculated,” Gore said. “And last year a catastrophic storm from last fall hit Bangladesh. The year before, the strongest cyclone in more than 50 years hit China – and we’re seeing consequences that scientists have long predicted might be associated with continued global warming.”

Gore claimed global warming is forcing ocean temperatures to rise, which is causing storms, including cyclones and hurricanes, to intensify.
In fact, as we have pointed out, the oceans (as well as the global temperature) have been on a cooling trend.

What a total ignorant fool this man is. Sort of reminds me of what Will Rogers said "EVERYONE IS IGNORANT, JUST ON DIFFERENT SUBJECTS"

It would be nice if just once, when Gore appeared on tv, just one reporter asked him, "Is it just a coincidence that the most vocal advocates of the global warming theory are also the most vocal advocates of Big Government?" (I would have phrased "most vocal advocates of Big Government" as "the biggest State-f$ckers," but probably the FCC wouldn’t allow a tv reporter to use such language.)

Meanwhile back at the ranch ..
HOUSTON, May 5 — The oil and gas industry will need to invest $50-100 trillion to rebuild its ageing infrastructure within the next 7 years and stave off a serious drop in oil and gas production, Matt Simmons, chairman of Simmons & Co. International, told OGJ May 5 at the Offshore Technology Conference in Houston.

In a worst-case scenario, Simmons said, oil and gas output could fall by 10-20% by 2013 if industry does not replace its rusting, corroded assets. Spare capacity also has run out because formerly cheap prices for oil and gas precluded upgrading and construction of new facilities.

The Tax Trickery Spreads
It was bad enough when Senators Hillary Rodham Clinton and John McCain decided to engage in some petty pandering by calling for a suspension of the federal gas tax over the summer. What they suggested would reduce needed tax revenues and hamper efforts to combat global warming.
.. and here I thought we had a need for more energy, but obviously this is all about Global Warming prevention. No wonder Congress has been unable to generate any new oil .. instead concentrating on conservation and ethanol.

Gee .. it’s great to know that the Church of the IPCC now runs the world economy.

The authors compared recently constructed temperature data sets from Antarctica, based on data from ice cores and ground weather stations, to 20th century simulations from computer models used by scientists to simulate global climate. While the observed Antarctic temperatures rose by about 0.4 degrees Fahrenheit (0.2 degrees Celsius) over the past century, the climate models simulated ncreases in Antarctic temperatures during the same period of 1.4 degrees F (0.75 degrees C).
The error appeared to be caused by models overestimating the amount of water vapor in the Antarctic atmosphere, the new study concludes. The reason may have to do with the cold Antarctic atmosphere handling moisture differently than the atmosphere over warmer regions.
That pesky "water vapor" again.

More to the point ..
"Encroachment into mangrove forests, which used to serve as a buffer between the rising tide, between big waves and storms and residential areas; all those lands have been destroyed," he said, according to an AFP news agency report.
"Human beings are now direct victims of such natural forces."
Pitsuwan made his comments after a news conference by Maung Maung Swe, Burma’s minister for relief and resettlement, who said the cyclone’s storm surge had caused more deaths than the 120mph (190km/h) winds.
"The wave was up to 12ft (3.5m) high and it swept away and inundated half the houses in low-lying villages," he said. "They did not have anywhere to flee."
Mangroves have been long been known to act as "bio-guards" for coastal developments. A study published in late 2005 of the Asian tsunami that claimed the lives of more than 200,000 found that healthy mangrove forests helped save the lives of Sri Lankan villagers.

So why the hype? Well, global warming is a growth industry designed to keep Earth and some bank accounts green.

Gore himself joined the venture capital group, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers just last September. On May 1, the firm announced a $500 million investment in maturing green technology firms called the Green Growth Fund.

The group announced another $700 million to be invested over the next three years in green-tech startup firms. But if the green technology business, uh, cools down, there will be no return on that investment. There would be no need for such investments if global warming wasn’t a threat. So Gore just launched, among other things, a $300 million on an ad campaign to convince us it is so.

Speaking at a conference in Monterey, Calif., on March 1, the former vice president admitted to having "a stake" in a number of green investments into which he recommended attendees put money rather than "subprime carbon assets" such as tar sands and shale oil. He also is co-founder and chairman of Generation Investment Management, which sells carbon offsets that allow rich polluters to continue polluting with a clear conscience.

We have a prediction all our own — that disastrous global warming will not occur. Then the greenies will take credit for preventing it and ask us if we’re glad we spent trillions in fighting it. Al Gore will be laughing all the way to the bank.
