Another Hillary Blowout
Posted by: Dale Franks on Tuesday, May 20, 2008

Hillary Clinton romps through Kentucky with a 65%-30% win over Barack Obama. McQ and I were both right about where Obama would win. Bruce said he'd win Louisville, and I said he'd win Lexington. he won both...but those are the only counties he won.

And, looking at the Democratic exit polls, Clinton won just about everybody. A majority of both college and non-college educated voters. Religious and non-religious.

One of the interesting things about the exit polls, there, however, show that 16% of the state's Democrats are planning on voting for John McCain in November. that follows 18% who said they'd vote for McCain in West Virginia, 10% in Pennsylvania, 16% in Indiana, and 14% in North Carolina.

It strikes me that the Democrat’s proportional reward system doesn’t match the general election EC system very well. They are preparing for football by playing soccer . . .

Why do so many accusations of racism fly when 2 out of 3 white Democrats support Clinton, but so few when more than 9 out of 10 black Democrats support Obama?

And why does all the media discussion of race discuss "Kentuckians" or "voters" but never "Democrats"?

And Hillary got killed in Oregon. A state full of white people.

So what?
Why do so many accusations of racism fly when 2 out of 3 white Democrats support Clinton, but so few when more than 9 out of 10 black Democrats support Obama?
Because black people didn’t enslave white people within the last 200 years.

This has been another edition of simple answers to stupid questions.

Why are wingnuts so out of touch? Well, the question sort of answers itself, doesn’t it?

Oh yes - I forgot - to the wingnut-racist types, as long as there are currently laws against racism, those people who are non-"white" cant’t complain about anything. That their parents may have been discriminated against doesn’t matter. Same with their grandparents. Or great-grandparents. Because, after all, how your parents or grandparents or great-parents were treated could have had no effect on your life.

At least in the eyes of the dead-enders who post on this site.

Long live George Allen!

Mk: I don’t think anyone would argue that black Americans do not suffer any ill effects from the history of racism here in the US. However, it’s an entirely different (and ridiculous, and unhelpful, and insulting) proposition to then suggest that because of that history of racism, no one is allowed to notice or point out (much less criticize) anything that might reflect negatively on black people. Or to suggest that it’s not only OK, it’s a good idea to live your life based on how your parents or grandparents were treated.

I’m not even stipulating that support for Obama is necessarily a negative thing, but if I’m reading you correctly, you don’t think there is anything interesting about the fact that 90% of black Democrats are supporting Obama. You don’t think that there is anything useful to learn about that, were we to question or examine it. And to think the current occupant of the White House gets slammed for a lack of intellectual curiosity.

You’ve just reversed the straw man you set up: because white people once enslaved black people, white people don’t get to complain about anything, and black people can complain about whatever they want to. Soft bigotry.

So you’re saying that Blacks are far less likely to vote objectively than whites. Check.

mk,

More like stupid answers to simple questions.

No Clinton voting white Democrat has ever enslaved a black person. No Black Obama voting Democrat has ever been enslaved by a white person.

I don’t dispute that there is still racism (especially among Democrats) or there are lingering after effects of slavery. But I don’t think it is legitimate to paint Clinton voting Democrats as racists because of sins of their Democrat fore-fathers.

I guess you could paint the continuing institution of the Democrat party as racist for its role in protecting the institution of slavery when it was legal, seceding from the union when a Republican election victory based on opposing slavery happened, its role in creating and upholding the Jim Crow laws that violated the civil rights of American citizens and its bitter opposition to efforts to overturn those laws and protect civil rights (see Dixiecrat, Senator Byrd filibuster). And of course there is the D’s recent switch in which races it was descriminating against and in favor of. But I don’t think it is fair to lay the mortal sins of the Democrat party on Clinton voters. Democrats as a whole, maybe. Just Clinton voters, no.

One would hope that your simple sentence concerning slavery would still ring true in another 200 years. The problem is that it still won’t be an answer to the question. It will, simply, still be just a justification for black-on-white racism.

So just when does the clock run out on this justification for reverse racism?

Never mind. I already know the simple answer. Never.

That is the "genius" of the race debate in this country. No matter what you say, no matter what the logic, no matter what the empathy, just to mention race is to "wave the bloody red flag" in front for all to see. If, upon seeing that flag, you cringe in fear and guilt - THEY win. If you stand up and talk back to the flag, you are a racist - THEY win.

Who are they? Go back and read MK’s whinings ("More like stupid answers to simple questions") - there’s your answer.

Politically, this is the same "bloody red flag" waved for decades after the American Civil War by the Northern Republicans. For generations the Republicans waved the "bloody red flag" of the Civil War to constantly remind any and all that the Democrats started the Civil War. And the tactic generated the same response.

So long as the flag bearer is allowed to wave it unmolested, the debate will remain the same. When the flag bearer starts getting gored for waving the flag is when the tactic will have run its course.

On one side of my family, my great-grandparents were not born in this country. So is it possible to get at least a 50% pass on this guilt by heritage stuff?

Oooh, sorry, no. As soon as they arrived in this country, your great-gandparents immediately became thwe beneficiaries of white privilege. They then passed on that heritag—and guilt—to you.

I suspect that there is at least one Arab from the Sudan who is voting for Clinton who had a few black slaves in the old country.

If so, can I also get a pass since my great-grandfather killed at least one Confederate and later he took a Confederate bullet in the shoulder.

What does that mean? Feeling the white rich guy guilt Mr Fancypants Lawyer?

My GGP’s were Irish peasants, their son was an Irish gardner in America, his American son fought in WWII and retired as a union machinist after 40 years at GE, and I’m the first to graduate from college.

You’re right, if my GGP’s had all been rich folks, I’d probably be a rich folks too. Instead they didn’t have much, they worked to earn what they had, and eventually one of us got a higher education after 4 generations. And you know if the descendent of Irish monkeys can do it....

Go take your guilt somewhere else and wallow in it.
