I’m glad you caught this. It would have gotten by me ( I didn’t see the report ) and I was in the Navy for five years. |

More and more I see this kind of reporting going on regarding the military. And the only thing that registers with me is that THEY hold the military in such contempt that THEY do not bother with the usual Due Dilligence afforded even the more mundane kind of reporting.
It’s only the military - as if anyone cares - unless you are trying to make political points using them. |

What sickens me is that the "editors" (including Katie Couric) of that story, watched the clipped and likely felt "this is a piece of reporting we can be proud of." The fact that they got the metal wrong....par for the course. The sad tradegy is that a news network can’t muster the courage to run a story saluting the service of our combat men and women. Imagine that story.
Actually, I don’t have to. QANDO does a great job with the "Meet the Hero" segments. Thank you guys. |

I found this back and forth interesting in the movie:To us, Corriveau and the rest of the soldiers honored Thursday, two of them posthumously so that their families received the medals, are heroes.
But that’s one of war’s many myths.
"Do you feel like a hero?" Martin asked.
"No. I did my job," he said. They are trying to claim that Corriveau is not a hero. To me, that’s what makes him a hero. He’s not beating his chest saying how great he is. He feels he "just did his job." That’s part of what makes him a hero, dimwits.
And the other two even more so. They did more than I can imagine (gave up their lives) for other people (myself included). Their contempt for this man that just got the service cross is reprehensible. |

How about not wasting everyone’s time nit-picking stupid crap like that they used the wrong background graphic. (By the way SShiell, its MEDAL not metal).
People should know that watching network news is a waste of time.
I quit the TV habit in 2001 and I have never looked back.
However, only if folks who share space on the web will elevate the level of political discourse will the blogs rise above the tripe level of the network news.
For example, rather than discuss what a bunch of morons Kouric’s team is, discuss what this soldier actually did to earn his DSC. Tales of true valor are real news. Something Kouric has apparently never encountered. |

By the way, J. Tyler Ballance, it’s COURIC, not Kouric.
I bring it up because it continues despite the MSM’s continued claim that their "three levels of editors" make them superior beings in the media world they continue to make simple mistakes like that highlighted.
Just another example of their total incompetence when it comes to all things military.
And if you’re new here, we talk about our military’s bravery all the time in a category called Project Hero as well as a Sunday night radio segment on WRKO am680 out of Boston called "Someone You Should Know."
Point? We talk about this because covering what these heroes do is important and those who can’t take the time to do due diligence ought to be called out when they screw up. |

Since I was medically retired from the Marine Corps in 1970, I’ve fought an ongoing batle with the nation’s MSM over sush egregious incidents.
One in particular comes to mind. In the 80s I was never successful in getting the Rocky Mountian News to retract its story that mentioned "Sen. John Kerry had served in Vietnam where he was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor(sic)."
One would think that since Colorado borders Nebraska, at the least they would know the difference between Sen. Bob Kerrey, a two-term Nebraska governor, and that other guy. But no.
There was a day in the country when grade schoo children learned to identify our military aircraft by their silhouettes; today 8 of 10 adult Americans couldn’t tell the difference between a Master Chief Petty Officer and a National Guard staff sergeant. |

Here is some truth .."I’ll tell you my impression. We really in this last election, when I say we...the Democrats, I think pushed it as far as we can to the end of the fleet, didn’t say it, but we implied it. That if we won the Congressional elections, we could stop the war. Now anybody was a good student of Government would know that wasn’t true. But you know, the temptation to want to win back the Congress, we sort of stretched the facts...and people ate it up." Woof. |
