Stray Voltage

You know you're getting old when entertainers start dying that you used to watch as a kid. Last week Dick Martin died and today Harvey Korman has gone to his reward. While Korman was a talented comedian, what I remember most, and what I tuned in to see each week when he was on the Carol Burnett Show, was to see not if, but how Tim Conway would crack him up during their skit. With his back to the audience and his shoulders shaking in laughter, he would elict gales of laughter from me. RIP Harvey.

Obama has denounced the Catholic priest who is seen ranting and raving here.
“As I have traveled this country, I've been impressed not by what divides us, but by all that that unites us. That is why I am deeply disappointed in Father Pfleger's divisive, backward-looking rhetoric, which doesn't reflect the country I see or the desire of people across America to come together in common cause," Obama said in a statement.
Pfleger has "apologized" with the usual non-apology apology:
"I regret the words I chose on Sunday. These words are inconsistent with Senator Obama's life and message, and I am deeply sorry if they offended Senator Clinton or anyone else who saw them."
As with most who issue these sorts of apologies, what he actually regrets is getting caught uttering them.

Scott McClellan continues to ride the wave of controversy, adding to it yesterday:
"I have a lot of respect and admiration for Sen. McCain," former White House press secretary Scott McClellan said in a telephone interview with USA TODAY's David Jackson this afternoon.

"I'm also intrigued by Sen. Obama," McClellan added.
Yeah, I'll bet he is. Info on McClellan's publisher in the WSJ:
We'd merely note that the book's publisher is PublicAffairs, an imprint founded by left-wing editor Peter Osnos and which has published six books by George Soros. PublicAffairs is owned by Perseus Books, which is owned by Perseus LLC, a merchant bank whose board includes Democrats Richard Holbrooke and Jim Johnson, who is now doing Barack Obama's vice presidential vetting. One of Perseus's investment funds, Perseus-Soros Biopharmaceutical, is co-managed with Mr. Soros.

Yesterday I mentioned Obama's desire to see American children learn a second language. One of the examples he used was India - "India has a 'huge advantage' because most people speak English besides their native language"

Steve Antler reminds us:
Political correctness may dictate we ignore certain aspects of history, but it remains a fact English is a native language of India. (Contrary to Obama's understanding, most English-speakers in India learned from parents at home.)

What is with all of the construction crane collapses?
Two people died in a crane collapse on the Upper East Side of Manhattan Friday morning, according to the city's fire department, reports WCBS-2 in New York.

The construction crane smashed into a high-rise apartment building before crashing more than a dozen stories onto the street below.
It seems to be a much larger number of fatal collapses than I ever remember hearing about.

How many more people will Obama have to apologize for?

The Pfleger non-apology answers the question of whether the people at Trinity have any awareness of how much of a problem their typical anti-white, anti-American antics pose for Obama’s campaign.

Frankly I assumed that by now Obama would have a full-time staffer at Trinity vetting their activities and publications so as not to inflict exactly this sort of damage.

Yesterday we got this. Today it this.

Yea .. the’re a "basket case".

He has a few spare months before Denver, so let’s see Obama talking skills bring this to a resolution.

Pfleger warned about pulpit politics. Pfleger stepped down from "Catholics for Obama."

I feel better now. NOT.

Obama does have a "men of bad faith" problem.

What’s next ? A raving rabbi ? A imperfect imam ? A divided Branch Davidian ?

India has the advantage? Hardly. We have the advantage because two-thirds of the rest of the world learn English so they can do business with us. If they don’t learn English, they’ll lose out to someone else who will.
