I noted the same two articles, this morning myself... it went up about 15 minutes ago. Yours is a nice take. I added one, however, that you may find interesting. Boortz points out the British plan isn’t all that unique:Rep. Edward Markey, a Democrat from Massachusetts, is the chairman of the House global warming panel. Next week he is going to introduce a bill that would cut emissions by 85% from 2005 levels. This exceeds any reduction in bills currently before the Senate. Markey’s bill would cut emissions by 85% by 2050. He says that his bill would generate $8 trillion by auctioning off emissions allowances to polluters.
So .. what do we have here? An attempt to help our environment or a scheme to seize more wealth from American taxpayers? Yeah .. like that’s a hard one to figure out. That’s really the key, here; increasing taxation, and giving government the control of rationing.

Marx!sm / Social!sm has been embedded other agendas as well. Not just env!ronmentalism.
Mult!culturalism and Political Correctness have replaced the cliche Marxist mantra of economic exploitation of the worker and economies of the world by the West with exploitation / abuse of non-white races and other cultures of the world.
It was foolish to think the same people or similarly disposed people just disappeared after the Soviets fell and China embraced capitalism. |

Sorry for the spam, but the upper comment was being blocked and I wasn’t sure why. I just flipped the ’i’ to a ’!’ above in the 3 suspect terms and it went through.
Not trying to bypass the posting mechanism. I just can’t believe any of those three terms are banned. If they are, sorry. |

Bithead—He says that his bill would generate $8 trillion by auctioning off emissions allowances to polluters. A couple of interesting points here. First, government doesn’t "generate" anything, as you point out. Government simply transfers that money from people willing and able to pay it for the allowance of using more energy. This is rhetorical sleight-of-hand by Markey to make it seem like there is some creation of wealth instead of an additional tax on consumers. Second, this is a profoundly regressive tax that will hurt poor people far worse than wealthy people. |

I think more and more people are waking up to the notion that the "DO SOMETHING NOW!!!!!!!!!!" branch of global warming is more destructive than possibly global warming (if it exists). Between our destructive policies that create higher food prices, to our idiotic policies that create a totally unwarranted energy problem, people are starting to notice these things.
It’s very obvious to anyone who wants to stop and think for 5 minutes that GW is basically a scam and a money/power grab |

Unfortunately this is the very reason we will refuse to vote for McCain. Slavery (ala Obama) or Slavery-with-a-Smile (ala McCain) are both unacceptable, and our family will not go willingly.
Too many Jews thought cooperating with Hitler, accepting decrees to self-identify with armbands, and relocating to new communities which eventually led to the death camp, would show their worth and minimize the downside. Unstable, power-hungry personalities like Obama and McCain should not be compromised with nor should they be tolerated.
No to McCain in 2008. We will not go willingly! |

Well, as Charles Krauthammer explains, after the collapse of communism, those who still are true believers in central planning had to have somewhere to go. Krauthammer, in my estimation, has correctly pointed out where they’ve landed
I believe Ott Scerb nailed this one back in March:So forget all this contrary evidence, and the pernicious idea that such contrary evidence could possibly undermine the magnificent edifice that is global warming. Since the fall of the Soviet Union, we leftists have worked tirelessly to come up with a rationale for our domination of society, and global warming is by far our best effort, especially after HillaryCare failed to take hold. |

I am beginning to think that this is the biggest threat that people who believe in freedom face today. Bigger than the threat of radical Jihadists.
It takes so little time for a people to lose all their freedoms. And Just as important as the rights of Speech and assembly are, economic rights are important to your personal freedom. |

The skeptical optimist ran the numbers and figured out the only solution to carbon emissions was nuclear power coupled with electric cars (which are not ready yet, but could be soon.)
The funny thing is that if you espouse that kind of policy, it shuts up the greenies, but they look damn uncomfortable. |

All of the greenies point to the 1970s as the turn around on the CO2 emissions. And if you look at that timeframe, it coincides with the Catalytic Converter requirement for new automobiles. For the uninformed, the catalytic converter does one very specific thing, it converts CO (Carbon Monoxide - a poison) to CO2 (thought of as an innocuous gas until recently).
The solution mentioned by harun’s entry above , electric cars, would eliminate the CO2 production from current petroleum based automobiles but the electicity would still have to be generated and the resultant greenhouse gasses from those sources is bound to rise significantly.
One other interesting input would be the Hydrogen vehicle where the only emission would be H20 (water vapor). But when you study climatology, the one really major effect on the retainability of the heat in the atmosphere is water vapor. Could we be fixing a non-problem (CO2) by creating a real problem? |
