Closing the Barn Door After the Horse has Left
Posted by: Dale Franks on Saturday, May 31, 2008

Barack Obama is resigning from Trinity United Church of Christ.
Sen. Barack Obama's campaign confirmed Saturday that he has resigned from the Chicago church where controversial sermons by his former pastor and other ministers created repeated political headaches for the Democratic frontrunner...

Obama has said he was not present for the controversial sermons by Wright or Pfleger and condemned both. This week, he said he was "deeply disappointed" by Pfleger's "divisive, backward-looking rhetoric."
I'll bet.

Oh, well, better late than never.

Given timing of the announcement, set against the unendurable drama of the Rules Committee meeting, he looks like a cat at work in the litterbox.

I like how certain liberals are now saying "There. Happy now? Can we move past this now?"

As if the delay and timing doesn’t raise eye-brows...

"Can we get past this now?" UHH NO! Just the same way you got past, Trent Lott’s speech about Strom Thurmmond? the way you got past Mission Accomplished? The same way you got past Maccaca? There is a lot of payback coming your way moonbats, and it has only just begun.

Yeah, kyle, and he will never know the extent of the payback until the early morning of November 6. The polls just won’t pick up all of the hostility to this kind of stuff from those who have had to deal with political correctness and actual reverse discrimination disguised as "diversity".

The success of the state constitutional amendments prohibiting discrimination on account of race in the same language of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 is a big hint that this BS will come to a screeching halt come November.

"Late" is right, Dale.
One thing this most recent incident with Pfleger shows rather clearly is that nothing has changed in that church... that this leaning toward hate and racism is nothing new for them.

As such, the little issue of being a member of that church, contributing large sums of money to the place and his time... and sitting in those pews for 20 years that issue’s not going away.

And Obama now comes off as at best, an opportunistic liar of the sort that must take even the Clinton’s breath away.

Going to be interesting to see how much of the black vote this costs him.

Cruising around the web, I get the impression that this doesn’t affect Obama supporters much—some are even proud to say that they agree with Pfleger and don’t find his comments objectionable. DailyKos has only one tiny thread on it and the 22 commenters ignore Pfleger entirely and blame it all on Fox and Hannity for harassing Trinity.

I wonder how much this affects independents and swing voters. Not well, I imagine, but at this stage Obama has a rock solid hold on his radical base, and he had to take a hit if he remained or resigned Trinity. If he stayed, this would only happen again. So it was smart to cut his losses and leave now.

The best news out of this IMO is that we won’t have to hear any more nonsense about Obama’s historic race speech last March.

It’s about, oh, ten years too late.

And leaving the church now, three-quarters of the way through the presidential contest (which began a year and a half ago), is a rear-guard action against the facts of Obama’s own life.

What’s he going to do if the "holy grail" appears (the video of him standing in the church and applauding some insane remark by Wright), say that it now means nothing because he has left the church? (Yes, he probably will say that.)

But he could no more disown his church than he could disown.......oh, nevermind!

New Obama campaign slogan:

Hey, I’m half white!!!!

In all seriousness, I don’t think he shares the racial hatred that the ministers, church officials, and apparently most of the parishioners themselves at that fine institution have, but the political expediency of tolerating it over 20 years for political gain doesn’t really reflect much better upon him than if he’d delivered those sermons personally.

Even if my political philosophy wasn’t in such opposition to the Democrat’s, I still don’t think I could support a party that routinely picks the least electable candidate at hand for president. Their display of total incompetence in the primary process, from the FL & MI debacle (hey, no rule is final), to the train wreck that is Barack Obama’s back history (includes wife), is enough to call into question their ability to do anything other than put the ox cart directly in the ditch if handed the reins.

I lament that there is currently no politically viable alternative to use as a bulwark against them than the Republicans, but I wouldn’t trust the Democrats with the task of hanging toilet paper in a public outhouse.

Trinity has become a media creature unto itself to a degree. And this was a priest attacking personally Hillary Clinton. Obama is making the assumption that this was all about him. Partly true but there were other factors drawing this to the headlines.

They could have let Pfleger’s comment lay. Obama’s connection with Trinity is a known fact and it can’t really be undone. And this denunciation only helped to make this incident more about himself not less.

Now some say the timing was so it was masked by the FL/MI delegate conference. Perhaps. But otherwise, the Obama campaign machine has lost its touch lately.

hear any more nonsense about Obama’s historic race speech.
I heard Bill Scher say that nonsense on Bloggingheads the other day.
Like the swiftboat vets being a rovian plot that nonsense is permanently ingrained in the mind of the progressives.

He should have done this before he announced this candidacy.
He should have announced it about halfway through the second sermon he heard in the church about 19 years and 11 months ago, by getting up and walking out.
Written By: Martin McPhillips
Most pundits are saying he joined and stayed with that church out of political expediency. I don’t think that you sit through 20 years of black theology and become bosom buddies with a racist like Wright unless you believe it.

Obama is and has been running a "racial reconciliation" con while belonging to a black supremacist church. Giving him the benefit of the doubt as a presidential candidate is to play Russian roulette with the country with a gun that’s fully loaded.
Written By: Martin McPhillips
Now, this is the presumptive candidate of a party so riddled with the poisons of its base (and its leaders) and that invites anti-Americanism from Europe and around the world as some sort of badge of goodwill and has repeatedly announced the defeat of our military effort in a minor war in Iraq as if winning there would bring on the apocalypse and they, the Democratic Party, desperately want this guy from the Farrakhanish black power background.

McQ, Franks, et al.,

So, in trying to make those last four comments all at once, I got the old "banned words" notice. By a process of elimination the word that I removed from that last comment after which the comment went through was "raci*list," where the asterisk replaces the "a".

That doesn’t make any sense to me.

And here’s the rest of what I meant to be one comment:

My conclusion is that they are simply out of their minds; they are as unhinged as their demented cheerleader on MSNBC. And should they get what they want this country will go into a tailspin of God only knows what dimensions. And in taking hold of power they will become everything that they hallucinated "Bush!" to be X 10.

And not long into that this Obama creep will take the mask off.
Written By: Martin McPhillips
Mystery to me, McP. "Raci*list" isn’t on the list but it does bounce when in a comment.

C’mon guys, isn’t it obvious?

r... a... CI*LIS... t.

That’s why it’s banned.
