Mugabe makes totalitarianism official
Posted by: McQ on Saturday, June 14, 2008

Apparently Robert Mugabe has dropped all pretense of living by democratic principles or giving up power in Zimbabwe:
President Robert Mugabe vowed on Saturday that the opposition Movement for Democratic Change would never rule Zimbabwe, adding he was prepared to fight.

At least 12 members of the party, including opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai, were also arrested, the MDC said.

"We shall never, never accept anything that smells of a delivered parcel of what they call the MDC ... that is not going to happen. We are prepared to fight for it if we lose it in the same way that our forefathers lost it," Mugabe said referring to British colonial rule.
Mugabe and the ruling ZANU-PF party lost both the presidential and parlimentary elections during the March 29th vote. Since then, he has been stubbornly clinging to power and refusing to allow the election to be certified or the second ballot to be conducted (Tsvangirai fell a little short of the majority needed for an outright win of the presidency).

Of course, if you listen to Mugabe, all of this is someone else's fault.

I would think that it goes without saying, since Carter helped put Mugabe in power in the first place...
