Israel: Routine training or a rehersal for Iran strike? (update)
Posted by: McQ on Friday, June 20, 2008

One of the most important part of preparing for a military operation is, if time permits, rehearsing the plan.
A New York Times report published Friday quoted U.S. officials as saying more than 100 Israeli F-16s and F-15s staged the maneuver over the eastern Mediterranean and Greece in the first week of June. It said the aircraft flew more than 900 miles, roughly the distance from Israel to Iran's Natanz nuclear enrichment facility, and that the exercise included refueling tankers and helicopters capable of rescuing downed pilots.

Asked to comment on the report, the military issued a statement saying only that the Israeli air force "regularly trains for various missions in order to confront and meet the challenges posed by the threats facing Israel."
Of course any mission to Iran won't be crossing international waters like the Mediterranean. Instead, if I were to guess, they'd cross into Iran through some pretty vast areas in Iraq. I'd further guess that their tankers and their helicopters would bore holes in the sky above that vastness. And if I had to make a final guess, it would be that US's version Sgt. Schultz would be on duty that day in Iraq (since the US would be the only entity that could conceivably do anything to stop Israel).

Interesting.

UPDATE: Iran reacts:
"If enemies especially Israelis and their supporters in the United States would want to use a language of force, they should rest assured that they will receive a strong blow in the mouth," senior cleric Ayatollah Ahmad Khatami said in his Friday prayers sermon.

Don’t blame him... If I had the meager defensive capabilities and airforce that Iran had, and I was looking at the polished and practiced military of Isreal, I would be praying for the ability to react effectively too...

Isreal walked through Syria’s air-defenses, and Syria has the same stuff Iran has...

Iran is teh scrood...

This will be the mother of all mothers of all battles!

Maybe they can rent Baghdad Bob to script their victory speeches for them.

Yep, one Tehran Turkey Shoot coming up.

You think after all these decades, and one humiliation after another, the Islamic States would have learned not to frack with Israel.
