Dead Possum in the middle of the road
Posted by: McQ on Monday, June 23, 2008

And so goes the "great seal of Obamaland". The Obama Campaign has thrown the possum seal among the large crowd under the Obama bus.

The Obama campaign is trying to spin it as a "special seal" for a "single event". Yeah ... right.

Says Mark Ambinder:
I'm told that Obama recognizes that it was a silly mistake, that the universal reaction at Wacker and Michigan was, "Boy, was that dumb," and that they don't think the seal staging will matter to actual voters.

Does the press think Obama is arrogant? Yes. Does the seal represent arrogance? Only tangentially, actually. The worry for Obama's image managers is that it gives the press a pretext to call Obama arrogant, an example for them to add to a list of arrogant moments, and a way to distract them from what Obama is saying.
Says Larry Sabato:
Larry Sabato, director of the University of Virginia's Center for Politics, said the episode reinforces this media perception of Obama.

“The press corps adopts a subtext for each candidate,” Sabato told The Examiner. “Daddy Bush was 'a nice guy but out of touch.' Bill Clinton was 'smart but randy.' Bob Dole was 'heroic but too old.' Gore was 'brilliant but a fibber and a bore.' Dubya was 'pleasant but dumb.'”

He added: “Obama's subtext is rapidly becoming 'charismatic but arrogant.'”
You can take the "Harvard" out of the elitist but ...

First, let me say f*** Larry Sabato.

Now that that’s out of the way, there’s that photo of Obama standing behind the podium with that stupid seal on it, shot from a slightly low angle, I believe.

Well, that, my friends, is the Dukakis in the tank moment for Obama. He looks as absolutely clueless and ridiculous as he is.

Keep that sucker circulating.

Yo, Mythbuster. Wanna try this one on for size? I’d say it was about an 8 Double E Stupid but then again we may need a tape measure.

I seriously thought the Vero Possumus bit had been Photoshopped on when I first saw it (given that I saw it on conservative sites, and "possum" is an easy slam against one with an anti-interventionist foreign policy.) On the one hand, he seems to think America is gullible enough to not see through things like his NAFTA reversals, yet he also seems to think that at the same time we’re all Latin scholars? Sheesh. Must be all that time spent in academia.

John McCain is aware of the internet. He has also heard of "The Google."

Turns out he knows about color television and transistor radios.

Clueless? It’s a relative term.

Welcome to Q and O. It’s a good barometer of the wingnutosphere. For those who need to know.

But of course knowing how to use a computer - which McCain apparently does not, at least according to his advisor - makes one an arrogant elitist.

I bet you didn’t know that.

Clueless? Clueless?

It’s time for McCain to be out to pasture.

Careful, MK. Talk nice or you might get thrown under the bus with the Possum.

The guys across the aisle from people who spent months and months tracking down and talking about a sign that said:
"Mission accomplished".

Come on..."Vero Possumus"?
Give me a break.
Even the Press thought this one was bullshirt. But you clueless twits can’t see it.

MK says McCain is old!

Well, there’s the kind of reasoned insight that only he can give!

Well, if they *could* see it, then they wouldn’t be clueless twits. *Sigh*

I do enjoy mkultra’s hit-and-runs, though. He’s the North Star of clueless twits.

Is ’vero possumus’ Latin for ’si, se puede’? Cute.
