"Thousands of people were suppressed in their efforts to vote. Voting machines were distributed in uneven ways," the former Democratic nominee told an enthusiastic audience of 1,200 at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center in South Boston.
"In Democratic districts, it took people four, five, 11 hours to vote, while Republicans [went] through in 10 minutes. Same voting machines, same process, our America," Kerry said.
To Kerry, I guess that signals some nationwide conspiracy. To me, it signals that the Democratic Party's voting officials couldn't find their asses without both hands, landing lights, navigation charts, and ground control.
Ever notice how these problems always seem to crop up in Democratic-run counties? (Palm Beach, Broward, Cleveland, etc.) Now, either the Republicans are running some sort of vast intelligence "Black Ops" operation that only causes counties run by Democrats to screw up, or the Democrats' elected officials who are in charge of running the elections are a pack of incompetent buffoons.
I mean, you'd think that the Democrats would've worked out how to run smooth elections in the counties they run, wouldn't you? But, clearly, they haven't.
And you know what, for all the carping about Ohio, nobody on the Democratic side is mentioning Wisconsin. Kerry won there by something like 12,000 votes. Ah, but a signifigant percentage of the vote came from people who registered and voted the same day. And while Wisconsin counts those votes, they don't attempt to verify them until later. Apparently, in Milwaukee alone, 10,000 out of 73,000 same day ballots were unverifiable.
So, I'm just wondering why the Democrats aren't swarming to Milwaukee, Kenosha, and Racine to ensure that "every vote counts". Oh, wait a minute. Right. They won.
Sorry. For a second there, I was assuming their reactions were principled. My bad.
"Ever notice how these problems always seem to crop up in Democratic-run counties?"
Yes. It's called racially motivated disenfranchisement. I was a poll watcher this year, and people reported flyers telling them to vote at the wrong place, on Wednesday ... then there was the fact that the GOP had rented out all of the Ford Crown Victorias in the state and had people dressing up as plain-clothesed policemen in order to scare black voters away from the polls.
Wow praktike. If you only had actual proof of such shenanigans you'd be rich selling your crackpot conspiracy theories instead of farting them out here for free!
Besides, why 'plain clothes'? Why not simply send cops to patrol the voting areas? Oh, wait! There were cops at my precinct directing traffic and the such. Well, they made it look like they were directing traffic, but we all know it was to scare non-whites away. Luckily I wasn't arrested when I went to vote, being non-white and all.
You have some evidence that the GOP had rented Crown Vics and dressed people up as plain-clothes policement to scare black people?
Too....I've always wondered why the Democrats keep telling us that blacks are scared to be at polling locations when there are police in sight?
I think there's just some selection bias -- and not a little bit of fiction -- going on here. Hell, I live in a thoroughly Republican area, and we had a 2-hour wait at the polling place just down the road from me. (a friend tried to go and had to leave, due to the wait) We had cops near where I was voting.
If the exact same situation had obtained in a Democratic area, there would be cries of election-rigging.
Ever notice that these voting problems crop up in Democratic areas in states where the Secretary of State is a Republican?
Just a coincidence. Of course. Minorities and the poor have never been discriminated against in this country. There have never been efforts to disenfranchise these groups. It has never happened anywhere.

And just because they have, doesn't mean they were in Ohio, MK.
But what about Dale's point? Why are the problems always in areas run by Democrats? It makes it hard to swallow the idea the the problems were a result of Republican shennanigans.
Minorities and the poor have never been discriminated against in this country. There have never been efforts to disenfranchise these groups. It has never happened anywhere.
Remember: When you have no legs to stand on, point and yell RACIST!
When you call Republicans racists, does it help you sleep at night MK?
Why do blacks vote overwhelmingly Democratic? If you ask the GOP, it is because they are stupid and have been hoodwinked by the Dems. If you ask me, it is because they know, deep down, that the party of Obama is better for their interests than the party of Lott.
So tell me, Marble, why is it that blacks vote overwhelmingly Dem? I await your answer with baited breath.
And of course nothing racist ever happens in Ohio. BTW, ever spend a little time in Cincinnati?
The Associated Press
Ohio leads the Midwest in the number of white-supremacist groups, according to a study by a Chicago-based anti-racism group.
The Center for New Community says Ohio has 73 white-supremacist groups including the Aryan Nations and the National Alliance in a report released Saturday.
Some of the groups are using the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks as a recruiting tool and have used images of the burning World Trade Towers on fliers as a way to argue that the U.S. needs to close its borders.
The public is largely unaware of the groups' activities, said Devin Burghart, author of the report and director of the center's Building Democracy Initiative.
It's underneath that veil of ignorance that these organizations grow, he told The Cleveland Plain Dealer for a Saturday story.
The Center for New Community is tracking 338 white-nationalist groups active in Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska and Wisconsin.
You should bold the word RACIST and use all capitals so people can hear you better.
Yes, you are calling Republicans racist. You imply that blacks vote Dems because it's better for their "race". You use race as a statistic. While you worry about how bad the GOP treats the blacks, they've had 2 black secretary of states, hispanics, women, etc in the highest positions.
I mean seriously, what does a KKK group have to do with the GOP? It's not like they have a senator who used to be a klansman or anything.
And no, I've not been in Ohio in the past few years. But I grew up hispanic in the suburbs of Atlanta in the 70's so yes, I've seen racism at it's ugliest. And I've always sworn to not give a shit what color someone's skin is, unlike people like you who use it at every turn.
So scream "RACIST!!!" over and over until it lulls you into sleep.
Ever notice that these voting problems crop up in Democratic areas in states where the Secretary of State is a Republican?
Are you saying that the Secretary of State has more control over local precincts than the County Canvassing Board? If so, provide proof.
Why do blacks vote overwhelmingly Democratic? If you ask the GOP, it is because they are stupid and have been hoodwinked by the Dems. If you ask me, it is because they know, deep down, that the party of Obama is better for their interests than the party of Lott.
Surely you can see that the demographics are changing? A lot more blacks voted Republican this time out. We'll see whether that trend continues, but since the majority of blacks don't like the Democratic Party's position on school choice, gay marriage, or illegal immigration, I can see blacks starting to abandon their party.
By the way, MK, it' "with bated breath." It's a shortened form of "abated". You don't attach lures to your breath, you lower your breathing so that you aren't detected.
I notice that pratike has nothing to say about the violence and intimidation shown repeatedly towards GOP voters and party workers all throughout the election, including shooting BC04 headquarters, vandalism, burgulary and in at least 1 instance, a "union demonstration" turned break-in riot.
I'd say that's a REAL area of concern, not some nebulous black helicopter conspiracy about the GOP renting all the Crown-Victorias. Gimme a freaking break.
There's REAL problems here, real vote fraud (hello WA and WI) and loopholes a mile wide that threaten to, as one blogger put it, trigger a constitutional crisis somewhere down the road not to far away. But all you have is some hokum about poor blacks being afraid of the cops (nope, no liberal great white father sterotyping there)
Fricking idiot. Do people like you even care about this country at all? Because you sure don't act like it.
4 more years or BUSH-CHENEY. Crammed down your goddamn throat. Choke on it numbwad
I find myself in the curious position of defending mkultra.
mk isn't a lot of things: he isn't smart, he isn't logical, he isn't a coherent writer. But unless you have proof that he's a citizen of another country, capt joe, it's not far to say he isn't an American.
