Bruce: Ron Silver. That’s the actor you were speaking of. I could picture his face in my head (he usually plays the villain in movies) and remembered him from the movie "Timecop". He’s been very supportive of the military and critical of the Dems since 9/11. |

Actully, the guy’s name, as it turns out, is Heath Shuler - he ran against eight-term incumbent Republican Charles H. Taylor and won. It is an extremely conservative district and Shuler is a classic "blue dog" Dem. I feel better now - I thought for sure I had his name wrong. |

I just finished listening to last night’s podcast on the ride in to work this morning. We’re both right, but about different things. Last night I missed the part where you were talking about the Blue Dog Dems, where Heath Shuler was the correct answer to your comments, and heard you talk about the Dem at the Clinton 1992 Inaugural who was annoyed by the presence of military jets until he realized that they were "ours" now. That Dem was indeed the actor Ron Silver, whose name escaped me at the time I called in. What an arrogant and incredibly offensive thing he said at the time but at least has more than made up for since then. He is still quite the liberal in other areas but has become a hawk on defense since 9/11. Pretty cool about dealing with veterans and folks currently serving in OEF & OIF too. |

Btw, kudos to Lance for helping to end the podcast in the properly pessimistic tone! I’ve missed that recently... ;-) |
