Shoring up the ticket

Apparently, if rumors are to be believed, Obama is beginning to lean toward Joe Biden as his running mate, recognizing that foreign affairs and national security are his biggest and potentially most politically fatal weaknesses (among many). Lynn Sweet passes along the latest:

I'm just passing on the latest I'm hearing—that Sen. Joe Biden (D-Del.) is moving up on the list of potential running mates for presumptive Democratic nominee Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.). While Obama's heart may go towards Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine—his head takes him to a more experienced pick, a Sen. Evan Bayh (D-Ind.) or Biden, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

Well I've always thought of Joe Biden as a clean and articulate representative of the Senate. Well maybe not so articulate with his own words, but with those of others, not bad.

And here I was sure a white woman governor would be among the top three (shore up the women's (Hillary) vote and take a red state).

Anyone using Biden to shore up their credentials .. well .. must not have any of their own.

Biden was an early adopter of the crave up Iraq strategy .. even before the ISG talked about it.

But wouldn’t picking Biden show that Obama was full of guano ... back just a few months ago Obama said he was fully qualified to handle foreign affairs. Picking anybody to shore up his foreign affairs portfolio would show Obama as either stupid or a liar.

Obama will have no false idols before him.

I expect a relatively bland pick. No one that can steal any of the spotlight would be considered. A woman would inherently steal some of that spotlight. Biden, on the other hand, will be at best comic relief.

After all, there can be only One.

If he wants to win, he just has to choose Hillary. I believe that. Winning plus the baggage, or a close race without it.
