"Swift Boat" 2008?
Posted by: McQ on Wednesday, August 27, 2008

Andrew Sullivan wonders:
Two-tour Green Beret Ted Sampley of the 2004 “Swift Boat Veterans for Truth” is now targeting the Republican nominee with the group “Vietnam Veterans Against John McCain.” For some reason, Fox News is less eager to have him on the air than they were four years ago.
Ted Sampley, as far as I can determine, was never a member of "Swift Boat Veterans for Truth". (see Patterico) He may have been someone who supported their effort, as I did, but as far as I know, "two-tour Green Berets" didn't drive Swift Boats or serve in Swift Boat units.

The charges Sampley brings are mostly about alleged McCain cooperation with the North Vietnamese and McCain ignoring "credible" evidence about remaining POWs.

Sampley, it seems has a bit of a violent past as well:
Sampley was jailed after beating up McCain aide Mark Salter outside McCain's Senate office in 1992.
The fact that this has been going on since 1992 (grudge anyone?), he's acted violently and that "credible evidence" of remaining POW story has never gained much traction (or provided much credible evidence) may explain why Fox News (or any news outlet) isn't very interested in having him on.

On a similar note - I wonder if those who defended John Kerry by dismissing criticism from those who weren't "on his boat" will use the same defense for John McCain:
Other POWs have backed up McCain's story.
Nah.

All this guy has to do is give some forged documents to a CBS reporter. He’ll get his agenda advanced right quickly that way
