Palin As "EveryWoman"
Posted by: MichaelW on Tuesday, September 02, 2008

As reported by Byron York at the RNC:
When the day’s business was over, I drifted around the Colorado and Ohio delegations — two critical swing states — to get a feel for the delegates’ reaction. In the Colorado section, I ran into Sue Sharkey, from Windsor. When I asked what she thought, her reaction was not about Palin but herself.

“For me personally, it hit my heart this morning,” Sharkey told me, “because I was a 17 year-old girl, just like Sarah Palin’s daughter, and I had — I was in those shoes. And my son is with me, who will be 35 years old next week, and so I know what a difficult road there is for her.”

“I chose to have my son, and from that point I realized that I was a very strong right-to-life advocate,” Sharkey continued, her voice wavering ever so slightly. Roe v. Wade had been passed just the year before, and I already knew girls who were going through abortions. It wasn’t a choice for me; it wasn’t in my heart to do that. So when I heard the news this morning, it struck close to home for me.”

If Palin gives a good speech Wed (I’d bet on it) the left is gonna go after her even more...nothing will be off the table.

this is going to blow up in the left’s faces. Everyone who has had a teenage daughter, or has been a teenage mother, will be uneasy with attacks on the family because of a pregnancy.

Gee, the left is fine with Obama’s anti-American church and his close association with a terrorist.

And they were fine with John Kerry’s lies.

But Polin’s daughter better be perfect, damn it, else she’s not fit to be VP!

It’s Bizarre ..

Slick Willie is getting hummers, in the white house, by an public employee young enough to be his daughter, on the people’s dime - none of our business.

John Edwards - carrying on with a wife suffering from terminal cancer while seeking the office of Presidentof the United States - none of our business.

Sarah Palin’s daughter pregnant? Our business.

I forget where I saw it, but the line applies well:

If McCain gets votes from all the single women who went to the altar pregnenat, he’ll get a landslide.

Instapundit had that line from somewhere else...

As anyone knows it’s not the act, it’s the cover up.

Of course, there’s no cover up here, so the left has to invent one.

Gonzman the difference is that the hypocrisy lies in the fact that this is coming from the party of morals and conservative values. are you now telling me that social conservatives do not believe in marriage before sex? that getting pregnant at 17 is acceptable social conservative value?

I’m sorry, slntax - your evidence that Bristol Palin is a registered Republican? Cite? Source? Link?

Didn’t think so. Thanks for playing.

It’s not, BUT accepting the consequences of your actions IS...she’s not aborting the baby as an inconvenience, oh I’m sorry, she’s not being "Punished" by her mistake...AND she’s marrying the father....Now neither of them may have planned on this turn of events, and their road may be difficult, but they have chosen the BEST path, not the most CONVENIENT path, and that IS a social conservative value, or so it seems to me...really, this isn’t or oughtn’t even be a debate...50 years ago you got knocked up you got married...only recently did we decide that marriage was old fashioned and inconvenient, and any way the Single Parent, was the new Mary, Mother of God...or that abortion was the ’simple" solution to this little problem.

There’s no contradiction or ’hypocrisy’ here. Your reasoning skills are a little weak so let me help you out: the fact that Palin professes a view and her daughter acts in contradiction of that view is not hypocrisy. Having a daughter who is volitionally independent of Palin make a decision that Palin wouldn’t agree with is not hypocritical. Hypocrisy would be, for examle, if Sarah Palin HERSELF were to have an affair with someone other than her husband while stressing the sanctity of marriage (like John Edwards), THAT would be hypocrisy. So to answer your question, no, it’s not ’acceptable’, but ’sh1t happens’ with teenagers no matter how well you try to teach them otherwise and you deal with it and move on.

Based on current evidence, I see nothing wrong with Sarah Palin’s actions in this situation (and I’m saying this as someone who isn’t a social conservative nor do I have children and I get as sick as anyone of the ‘morals’ of the religious right). Her teenage daughter got pregnant even though she was taught otherwise and she’s trying to make the best of a difficult situation. Where’s the freakin’ hypocrisy??? You people need to listen to Pogue on this one: continuing to rail about this issue is making you look foolish. Move on and attack Palin on issues of substance. Keep harping loudly on this point to your own detriment.

I didnt see anyone suggesting that it was totally cool and she should be applauded for getting pregnant out of wedlock. Would you rather a mob form to slit her throat?

Want to see how desperate the Left is becoming? We now have a columnist for the Philadelphia Daily News who warned today that if McCain wins, there will be a race war.

I kid you not...check this out:

Fatimah Ali: We need Obama, not 4 more years of George Bush

This is what the Left is about to do to this country. If Obama wins, we all get screwed. If Obama loses, the Left is threatening violence.

Its irrelevant that your entire argument is faulty? I fail to see the irrelevance. I am not a child, i don’t need mommie to take care of me.
how can she keep the country from making mistakes
I guess she she should have used force, mounted a preemptive war against her daughters pregnancy and forced our form of birth control on her. Instead she used diplomacy and talked to her, sadly this had no effect. If only she had given away her freedoms to her mother, she could have been sheltered from her mistakes.

And now part of the reason we’re questioning her vetting is because her husband was arrested 22 years ago on a drunk driving charge?

HUH?

If this weren’t so pathetic it would be humorous -
We have a Senator for Massachusetts currently serving, serving at the time, who KILLED a woman in 1969. But we’re worried about Palin’s husband, who we’re not voting for....being arrested for drunk driving?

The NYT, pondering their plummet into business and opinion making oblivion.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26501863/?GT1=43001

Meanwhile the ’choice’ people, who want to offer abortions to girl’s Bristol Palin’s age WITHOUT any parental discussion(consent) are all bent out of shape that she got pregnant - oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooohhhhhh Shocking!!!!! A 17 year old girl got pregnant! And that her mother couldn’t control her so how is she going to control a country (what a laugh that whole thought line is...especially for people who think it’s okay for a 17 year old to have an abortion without her parents involvement!)

Hypocrisy they banner says "Liberal" and is carried by mindless chanting drones.

how can she keep the country from making mistakes
Well, hate to break the news to you, but NO ONE can keep the country from making mistakes. It’s called human nature, and it’s imperfect.

Don’t worry slntax, we get your game. You’re hammering this (much like the press went aresh*t over Cheney’s daughter) to try to depress the newly-energized base and limit turnout. You don’t believe a thing you’re saying here. It’s all a political expedient. We get it.

Again, like Erb you reveal you have no understanding whatsoever of who you’re trying to influence.

I invite and encourage you to keep it up. You and people like you only mint more support for McCain.

No slntax, the reality is that Obama is possibly a leftist loon masquerading as a left of center liberal and Biden is a liberal, and if you think we’d be crazy to vote for McCain/Palinas as Conservatives we’d have to be as totally moonbat raving mad as you are to vote for Obama/Biden.

You don’t have much experience with real life do you....you work with what you have, not the fantasy you’d like.

Moderates won in ’92, ’96, ’00, and ’04.

The Democrats are going to loose because they chose a far lefty without executive experience or accomplishments.

The Republicans are going to win becuse they chose a moderate with accomplishments, and his VP is a conservative with executive experience.

Hey, if you want to rag on McCain, you have a receptive audience here. But you’re railing against Palin and her daughter.

That’s not gonna get the job done.

Let me give you a little timeline:

1) At first I was determined not to vote for Mr Campaign Finance Reform
2) Then lefties started talking and I decided I’d grudgingly vote for him (to really vote against Obama)
3) Then Obama and his allies started talking, and I started to get eager to vote for McCain to spite the left
4) In light of all this Palinsanity and going after her daughter, I donated to McCain today.

Do you understand this? I was motivated to contribute to a campaign of a man I really don’t agree much with.

And I’m CHEAP! I don’t contribute to anyone.

This sh*t must be fought.

At one point I questioned how I would vote if the choice was Hillary vs McCain.

With Obama vs McCain, the decision was clear.

With Palin in the mix, the decision is a happy one.

Social conservatives understand that people are all imperfect; they make mistakes. I’m not a fundamentalist Christian, but I encourage my children and grandchildren to do the right thing, not because they might get caught or go to hell or cause problems for themselves, but because it’s the right thing to do. All responsible parents do that. Teenagers have lots of hormones and less the judgment than do normal adults.

The mistake leftists are making is that they believe that teenage indiscretions are character flaws rather than the human frailties they represent. Do they think that Christian families will throw their daughters out because they get pregnant? If they do it’s a misconception (no pun intended). Morally grounded families encourage abstinence knowing many young people will not follow that advice.

The politically dangerous edge of the left’s position is that it exposes the monstrous details of late term abortions and the fate of infants who survive it. Obama has a record on this subject, yet as with most of his history, he is unwilling to have it examined. He voted against the infants born alive act, a law that would require doctors to give medical care to victims (new born babies) who did not die as planned.

Imagine this ad.

"Girls, don’t worry about getting pregnant. We’ll fix everything if you do. A doctor will give you a free abortion even at nine months while you’re in labor. If the baby doesn’t die, we will put it on a cold metal table in an empty room to cry until it dies of exposure.

"I’m Barack Obama and I approve this message."

As I understand it, Bristol Palin and her fiancee were engaged /before/ she got pregnant. So - the father’s in the picture and there is intent to marry?

This wouldn’t morally transgress by the standards of the /Amish/, let alone the conservative base. I mean, seriously. Y’all are trying to build a moral controversy out of something that wouldn’t offend a Mennonite.
