Experience? Why I’ve run a multi-million dollar campaign!
Posted by: McQ on Tuesday, September 02, 2008

This, folks, is Barack Obama's own explanation as to why he has "more experience" as a PRESIDENTIAL candidate than his opponents VICE PRESIDENTIAL candidate:
COOPER: And, Senator Obama, my final question — your — some of your Republican critics have said you don't have the experience to handle a situation like this. They in fact have said that Governor Palin has more executive experience, as mayor of a small town and as governor of a big state of Alaska. What's your response?

OBAMA: Well, you know, my understanding is, is that Governor Palin's town of Wasilla has, I think, 50 employees. We have got 2,500 in this campaign. I think their budget is maybe $12 million a year. You know, we have a budget of about three times that just for the month.

So, I think that our ability to manage large systems and to execute, I think, has been made clear over the last couple of years. And, certainly, in terms of the legislation that I passed just dealing with this issue post-Katrina of how we handle emergency management, the fact that many of my recommendations were adopted and are being put in place as we speak, I think, indicates the degree to which we can provide the kinds of support and good service that the American people expect.
A) She hasn't been the mayor of Wasilla for a few years now, but she is currently the governor of Alaska.

B) As Byron York reminds us, "Just for the record, Alaska's FY2008 operating budget is $11.2 billion, and the state employs approximately 15,000 people."

So C) it would appear that Obama's Republican critics may be on to something.

More pathetic than that, though, is that his only claim to "executive experience" is running for office. And he makes a dishonest comparison to boot.

Of course when you add the proper numbers to the equation (she's been running Alaska as long as he's been running for president), he comes out on the short end of the comparison.

What a surprise.

I’m surprised he didn’t cite his executive experience running Ayer’s leftist foundation. I wonder why he’s shortchanging his own experience?

Facts no doubt available to Anderson Cooper in the event he might want to, I don’t know, maybe challege this nonsense during the interview.

One lefty idea was that the Palin selection took experience off the table. What you posted shows why that wishfull thinking isn’t the case: not all experience is equal, not all accomplishments the same, and the VP is not the President.

The fact is that Obama and Palin have a similar amount of experience, but qualitiatively hers is superior. It is almost as if her selection was a careful trap.

Even the arguments about her financial performance as mayer (our other thread) carry an implication: a similar analysis can’t be done on Obama because he hasn’t done anything similar.

This is insane. Why doesn’t Obama just go ahead and edit together the YouTube ad for McCain. I can’t believe he said this on camera!

So Obama is running his own campaign instead of an expeienced manager. Well, that explains a lot.

Hey, here is an example of Obama’s vaunted experience, 160,000,000 dollars of your tax money utterly wasted.

Think what he could do with the entire US budget.

Great point! That’s much more comparable than being a candidate — not a campaign manager.

He no doubt had about 100 million reasons not to bring that up, though.
This is insane.
Positively unbelievable.

You know, I’m beginning to suspect this Obama fellow doesn’t have good judgment.

Good thing he pointed towards his campaign. It has been hard to find anything he’s done to judge him by.

Can McCain/Palin please start referring to Obama as "Former Community Organizer" Obama?

Because when Former Community Organizer Lightworker refers to Mrs. Palin, it should be as GOVERNOR Palin.

I don’t know why Terrorist Sympathizer Obama refuses to give his opponents routine respect.

"So, I think that our ability to manage large systems..."

"Our"?
Hopefully this is giving some credit to the campaign manager who is doing the actual campaign managing.

And, by the way, what is that "support and good service" garbage that "the American people" are suppose to "expect" from a president?

He thinks he’s running for US Concierge.

Of course, a lot of people who’ll vote for him sort of think that, too.

By Obama’s standard, comedian Pat Paulsen has more experience to be President.

Aw, thanks for the Paulsen link, Neo. My favorite — my all-time favorite — suggestion for how to revamp the federal tax system is right there, about halfway down:
On Taxes: No taxes. Let’s just tip the government 15% if they do a good job.
All those opportunities to get the guy in office, dead and gone. The good news being that his ghost is running.

Gotta LOLOLOLove his campaign slogan:
“Pat Paulsen in ‘08, Thinking Inside the Box”

Experience is key.

Gov. Palin is the executor of the closest US state to Russia so she obviously has more foreign policy experience than Obama.

Good argument. LOL. Is this the best we can find on her?

Someone help me justify keeping my state Red this year.

Compared to a community organizer, it’s enough.

Not according to the polls it isn’t.

Heh ... and the polls have never ever been wrong, have they?

Reality says actually doing something is considered experience while just talking about what you’re going to do isn’t. Most people consider that common sense. And, it is that reality in which most people live.

What the polls claim, in many, many cases, doesn’t have anything to do with reality.
