I’ll note this:
The origional "Swiftboating" was done by vets who’s honor had been drug over the coals by John Kerry in the ’70s. And what I saw was mostly true, and raised questions about the top line on Kerry’s resume, and was therefore appropriate.
It wasn’t inherently "Republican", it was about him stabbing his buddies in the back.
How come we talk about "Swiftboating", anyway? Memogate was really the partisan attempt to steal an election. |

It’s real interesting how you can quickly size up a person’s political biases by how they define "swiftboating". |

The fun part is that in the past the term swiftboating would just easily pass into the lexicon as a verb. But I don’t think the left has that kind of power anymore. The normal people now have enough clout in media and on the internet to correct the term when it is misused and remind everyone of exactly what Don just said.

Considering that "swiftboating" involved actual facts, I’d say it still was the sole property of the Republicans...
This? This isn’t swiftboating... It is crass, vile and cruel, and it disgusts me. |

I think it’s charming that he or she is this naive. It casts that much more shame on the party leadership who’ve been peddling this horsehockey. The politics of personal destruction isn’t the exclusive province of either political party, neither party is above such tactics, and the way it’s practiced nowadays pales in comparison to stuff that was standard practice in days gone by.
Low, lousy, libelous smear campaigns are intrinsic to party politics. Inextricably entwined. The first American election that featured that degree of vitriol was, coincidentally, the first one in which party politics was really a major feature: the election of 1824. |

I don’t know, Dave, I think you could take it back to 1800. That was pretty vicious. |

Thanks for the link and for your strong support of Sarah Palin. Left or right, what’s beiong done here is simply wrong.
That so many on te left are simply standing on the sidelines and (silently) cheering this assualt is tragic.
And the news media.... Every single principle of journalism has been abandoned this weekend and won’t be located by these hacks until a left winger is attacked. Then just watch the Nora O’Donnells and Campbell Browns come to her (the left’s future version of Sarah Palin) defense and cry foul at every slanderous question and comment.
Imagine if anyone dared attack Joe Biden’s children. Hell hath no fury.......
