Palin a Ratings Hit
Posted by: McQ on Thursday, September 04, 2008

Nielson has released day 3 ratings and compared them to the day 3 ratings of the Dem convention. Says Neilson:
The TV audience for day three of the 2008 GOP convention was significantly larger (+99%) than the audience for the same night during the 2004 convention, which drew 18.7 million viewers.
The viewership for Palin's speech was a over 37 million. A summary below.
  • The Sara Palin speech generated 37.2 million viewers, just a 1.1 million viewers short of Barak Obama’s record-breaking speech on Day 4 of the Democratic Convention. The Palin speech was carried on only six networks while the Obama speech was carried on ten (including BET, TV One, Univision and Telemundo).
  • Palin attracted a large female audience (19.5 million women, or 4.9 million more than Day 3 of the Democratic Convention).
  • Ratings for viewers 55+ (25.2) continue to be about ten times higher than for teens (2.2)
  • Day 3 for the GOP attracted more Hispanic viewers (1.4 million) than Day 3 of the Democratic Convention (1.2 million), even though Univision and Telemundo did not carry the speech.
The contention that women aren't paying attention to Sarah Palin should be put to rest by those numbers. The Obama campaign should also be concerned about the huge gap between older and younger voters who are paying attention (he doesn't do a well with older voters) and they should be especially concerned that the Hispanic viewers sought out the speech of Palin in larger numbers than when Biden spoke despite two spanish language networks not carrying the speech.

To this day, I can’t understand why the left side of the political spectrum expects or feels entitled to the hispanic vote. Every person of hispanic descent I’ve known ( I realize this is purely anecdotal) has been either Mexican and Roman Catholic or Cuban and Roman Catholic. And devout Catholics at that. They also tend to be extremely conservative. Not to mention some of the kindest people I’ve ever known(but that’s neither here nor there).

Does the left just consider themselves entitled to minority votes? How condescending is that?

It seems they always ’misunderestimate’ the hispanic culture and their values.

This s what I was trying to get across to Erb and MK the other day. Regular people are talking about this election now. I mean, a normal night for me is to put the kids to bed, watch baseball, have a beer or two, text my buddies, hit the sack. Last night, ALL my boys were watching Sarahcuda and texting the hell out of each other. I mean, if guys are turning off baseball to watch a VP speech, we’re talking about some motivated/interested people.

Thanks MSM! Your idiotic pile-on basically ensured a viewer turnout of epic proportions for a Veep speech!

Dopes.

My parents fled Cuba, and I live in what most people jokingly call Lesser Cuba (Greater Miami). The vast majority of Cubans are heavy, heavy Republicans...but that has more to do with the fact that we don’t like anything to the left of Reagan. It scares the hell out of us.

See, we’ve had that before. We’ve seen what it leads to. And we emphatically say "you can keep it".

She brought down the house as she smiled sheepishly into the cameras and read from the tele-prompter. It was a mediocre speech at best..but presented very well. Even so I still don’t know who Sarah Palin is!

To put the viewership numbers in better perspective, look at it this way:

Palin drew 97% of the viewers while on only 60% of the channels.

If that’s the case, then that’s your fault.

So you will vote for the guy with no executive experience and the terrorist buddy. Because you are too stupid to figure simple things out.

Now, now Roschelle, what do you think would have happened to the anointed one if this had happened?

Foremost of the obstacles, Palin’s teleprompter was not working properly. When she took the podium, the machine rolled so quickly, it often skipped the first line or two of every paragraph on screen.

A serious, serious threat to Sen. Lightworker, that’s who she is.
