Obama’s smoke and mirror tax and spending plan
Posted by: McQ on Monday, September 08, 2008

Do you happen to notice anything interesting about this statement by Barack Obama?
Democrat Barack Obama says he would delay rescinding President Bush's tax cuts on wealthy Americans if he becomes the next president and the economy is in a recession, suggesting such an increase would further hurt the economy.
An admission that his taxes on the "wealthy" are punitive not only to the wealthy but to the economy. And yet we're to believe that he has a well thought out economic plan?

Instead, what he's admitting is leaving money in the hands of those who earn it is better for the economy than government taking it for their priorities.

Of course that means his mammoth spending programs which depend on spending money in the multi-billions of dollars all supposedly to be mined from "wealthy" Americans can't proceed without committing to huge amounts of deficit spending, can they?

Oh, and to add to that:
"Even if we're still in a recession, I'm going to go through with my tax cuts," Obama said. "That's my priority."
So the deficit spending will be even deeper than anticipated? Because he sure hasn't said anything about his priority being "spending cuts" has he?

If they are good for the economy in the short term, they are good in the long term.
"Even if we’re still in a recession, I’m going to go through with my tax cuts," Obama said. "That’s my priority."
We are not in a recession.

Nope. And, he won’t have a GOP Congress to push back all his big dollar programs as in ’94.

Is - We are not in a recession.

Good point. O’ course, it’s like the Allstate commercial: This may not be a recession, but it sure feels like one... given the MSM’s incessant attempts to persuade us all that the economy has tanked and we’ll all be in breadlines tomorrow.

It would be interesting to poll people - including The Annointed One - top see how many of them actually know the definition of "recession". It would also be interesting to poll people including The Annointed One to see if they have a clue about the unemployment rates and GDP.

As for The Annointed One and tax cuts: how well with that play with his loopy base? Next to wanting Bush hanged for a whole laundry list of "crimes" (starting with the ne plus ultra crime of beating Algore in 2000), the thing that libs want most is to see rich people PUNISHED. The must PAY for their crime of having money! That money belongs to the people, and if The Annointed One doesn’t take it from them through confiscatory taxes... well, that means that they’re getting away with it! HOW DARE HE!!!

I see this as encouraging rather than discouraging since it suggests that Sen. Obama is a pragmatist rather than an ideologue. It might discourage his supporters mightily but if that continues to be the case an Obama Administration could look a lot more like a Bush third term than a McCain Administration would.

What, he wants to continue Bushes failed policies? Doesn’t that undermine the whole Democrat convention?

You may see it that way. I see just another example of a man who will say whatever he has to to get a vote. A more interesting take would be to look at examples of what he said during his runup for the Senate - did he follow through? I am still Googling to find any of those speeches or debate transcripts.
