Posted by: McQ on Saturday, September 13, 2008 How else to you explain this flood of vile trash that passes for opinion or analysis among the netroots and "journalists" when it comes to Sarah Palin. It has become a sort of hobby to me to find the rantings of the deranged among the left and bring them to you simply because they show it is more than an isolated occurrence where one or two nutballs give vent to their inner viciousness. I have no idea who they think they persuade with their nastiness, but I do know I, for one, take their screeds as a firm indication that I have no reason ever to read them again. My two latest entries to the "who cares what they may write in the future" list are Michael Seitzman at HuffPo (lots of the deranged seem to hang out at HuffPo) and Katha Pollitt of The Nation. First Seitzman: I realized three things tonight. For one, if you are a McCain/Palin/Bush voter, you and I do not have a difference of opinion. We have a difference in brain power. Two, she really is as ignorant as I feared. And, three, she really is kinda hot. Basically, I want to have sex with her on my Barack Obama sheets while my wife reads aloud from the Constitution. (My wife is cool with this if I promise to "first wipe off Palin's tranny makeup." I married well.)Who is Seitzman? Who knows? I didn't even bother to click the "bio" link on the post. It isn't really worth the effort. In that short excerpt he proves he's not funny, not particularly tolerant and certainly seems to feel that only he has it all figured out and that should you disagree, well, you're just a dummie. No, I take that back - you're an idiot. Apparently third-grade taunts and sexual innuendo and preversion are about as good as he can do, and yet he has the temerity to call other's "idiots". As for Ms. Pollitt, I loved the way she started her little screed. Apparently she, like other faux feminists, is sure she represents the "one-true-way" and has the authority and gender to throw around declarations such as this: John McCain chose the supremely under-qualified Sarah Palin as his running mate partly because she is a woman. If you have a problem with that, you're a sexist.So there. My guess is that when John Kerry named a certain freshman senator as his running mate in 2004, she went all melty inside and had no concerns whatsoever about experience -something with which Palin trumps both of the freshmen senators in question here. But we're the sexists. And how condescending can Pollitt get? Well, you tell me: Well, I'm not playing. I don't care about Sarah Palin's family. I don't care if she's a good mother. I don't care if she's happily married, or who shops and who vacuums, or who takes care of the kids while both parents are at work. I don't want her recipe for caribou hot dogs, either. Life chez Sarah and Todd might make an adorable sitcom (Leave It to Jesus?) or a scathing tell-all a decade or so down the road (Governor Dearest?). Either way, so what? This is an election, not The View. As for feminism's meaning, what can you say after you've said that her career shows that even right-wing fundamentalist women have taken in feminism's message of empowerment and that's good, but that Palin's example suggests women can do it all without support from society and that's bad?Anyone - has Palin every suggested she did it all alone and without help from "society"? Nope. What she's instead said is government isn't always the answer. You know, sometimes just family and friends will do. For that bit of heresy, she's a fundy freak who has single-handedly destroyed feminism's hard won victories? These hatemongers better do a reality check if they think this trashing of Palin is going to hurt her among working women and moms. What you see from Seitzman and Pollitt are the latest examples of a constant drumbeat of vile hate continuing to emmanate from the left in general and the netroots in particular. And all Republicans can say is "thank you" and "keep it up". |
