How pathetic is this?
Posted by: McQ on Saturday, September 13, 2008

Mr. "Do-as-I-say-but-not-as-I-do" Obama directly questions McCain's patriotism:
"Just ask the machinists in Pennsylvania who build Harley-Davidsons," Obama said of McCain's record. "Because John McCain didn’t just oppose the requirement that the government buy American-made motorcycles, he called Buy American provisions 'disgraceful.' Just ask the workers across this country who have seen their jobs outsourced. The very companies that shipped their jobs overseas have been rewarded with billions of dollars in tax breaks that John McCain supports and plans to continue.

"So, when American workers hear John McCain talking about putting 'Country First,'" Obama said, "it’s fair to ask –- which country?"
Even Jake Tapper gets it:
Um ... isn't that pretty much the dictionary definition of questioning someone's patriotism?
Um, yes, it is. Wow - how desperate and dumb is that?

And, of course, it makes questioning Obama's patriotism fair game, and that's a battle he's likely to lose (it is also a diversion from the battle of "issues" which favor Democrats slightly to the battle of "values" which always favors Republicans).

I wonder how many days of campaign time this little bruhaha will consume?

"it’s fair to ask — which country?"

It is simple. You just don’t get it. There are ’Two Americas’ as John Edwards so eloquently put it, and Obama was just pointing out that McCain supports the America of the rich and famous whereas Obama supports the America of the poor and working class.

Remember; you heard it here first.

If John Edwards already said it, how did we hear it here first?

I wonder if Joe Klein will question Obama’s honor.

You’ve really go to look at the unedited transcript of the Gibson/Palin interview.

ABC is trash. Charlie Gibson should go to Candy Mountain.

"We’re going to have a bold energy plan that says that we are going to reduce our dependence on foreign oil by 20 or 30 percent over the course of a decade or two.
We are going to ask all citizens to participate in that process, not just government, but each and every one of us are going to have — are going to make commitments in terms of increasing fuel efficiency in our cars and homes, and the government is going to be in partnership with citizens to make that happen.." — Obama at Columbia
Interesting that virtually nobody seemed to notice this metric.

With all the ads from people telling us ... independent in 10 years,
with the US 70% dependent on foreign oil .. it will be at least 3 or 4 decades to be independent.

With cries for "energy independence" dating back to before Carter, somehow that doesn’t seem very bold or a real plan. It really underscores the necessity of opting for all energy sources.

Well, let’s see here. Remember Obama’s big convention speech? It was all over the news, 37 million viewers, wall to wall coverage. Remember he called McCain a chickenhawk then? "John McCain likes to say that he’ll follow bin Laden to the Gates of Hell - but he won’t even go to the cave where he lives." What, you missed that? Everyone but the great and good Beldar seems to have.

It isn’t as if it’s been disappeared either; it’s right here:

So. Prediction: it’ll get negligible attention.
