Instapundit points to Kenneth Anderson's suggestions for McCain commercials. He has some reasonably good ideas, but I notice that there isn't much attempt to point out just how liberal Obama is.

Now, maybe it doesn't matter. Maybe the Republicans have sullied their own brand so badly that calling other people liberal is just the pot calling the kettle black.

But if I were going to suggest a campaign commercial for McCain, it would go something like this script:

{Show picture of Bernie Sanders.}

Voiceover: This is Bernie Sanders. He's the senator from Vermont.

Voiceover: He's not a Democrat.

{Show donkey with red circle-and-slash fading in.}

Voiceover: He's not a Republican.

{Show elephant with red circle-and-slash fading in.}

Voiceover: He calls himself a socialist.

You might think he would be the most liberal member of the United States Senate. According to National Journal's 2007 computerized ranking, you would be wrong.

{Change screen to quadrants, and put Bernie's picture in the lower right quadrant. Put shadow silhouettes of Barack Obama in the upper left, Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) in the upper right, and Joe Biden in the lower left.}

Voiceover: Finishing just ahead of Bernie is the Democrat's vice presidential candidate, Joe Biden.

{Light up Joe Biden's picture.}

Voiceover: And the number one most liberal senator in National Journal's rankings for 2007? Presidential candidate Barack Obama.

{Light up Obama's picture.}

Voiceover: So the Democratic presidential ticket this year contains two people who have been ranked as more liberal than the Senate's only socialist. Thought you'd like to know.

Keep in mind that I'm not a McCain supporter, so you Obamanauts can pull back from using the keyboard macros you usually pull out against Republicans. I realize National Journal is a conservative publication, and that a whole bunch of leftie folks have screamed bias against them (though I've seen precious little hard analysis of why their rankings are wrong).

I'm just pointing out something that ought not be that controversial - Obama is very, very liberal, and so is Biden. Given Obama's background as a inner-city community organizer, etc., I don't see why anyone should be surprised or indignant when that's pointed out. And I think it's very, very relevant to this election.

Ditto jpm100. I’d wager that most people don’t really know what a socialist is, much less that’s it’s a bad thing.

Personally, I’d like to see The Annointed One hit on his police-state tactics. If The Annointed One will ask the DoJ to investigate groups that are critical of him, if he’ll form "truth squads" to prosecute people who "lie" about him, if he’ll even ban signs from his rallies when he’s only a candidate, what will he do to critics when he’s the president?

You guys might be right. I’d hope that there would be an age, perhaps forty, past which a good number of voters would have enough memories of history to have some hazy idea of soci@lism. But perhaps I would be hoping for too much.

In which case, the old saw about "those who don’t understand history are condemned to repeat it" applies to our entire society.

That’s a pretty mild ad compared to those that I’d be making.

Obama is not a liberal, he is a radical, and he’s pretending that he is neither.

His real constituents are Marxist academics and racialists (not just identity politics in the politically correct sense, but hyper-racialists in the Wright and Farrakhan mode). Another counterpart to Obama would be the late Edward Said, an intellectual anxious for the destruction of the West.

Why the conservative publications are playing nicey-nice with this stuff is beyond me.

jpm sums it pretty nicely. Obama’s core constituency, besides the people who know what socialism is and like it, seems to be basically a know-nothing crowd of vote-for-a-living types and the under-30 slack-jaws who wear Che t-shirts because they think it’s cool and can’t understand why anyone would object to that. I guess they think Che was a rock musician. Then there are the in-denial moderate "liberals" who think kind of sense socialism is a bad thing, but feel calling Obama a socialist is exagerrating, although they can’t tell you any significant difference between European socialists and Obama, or between European socialists and modern-day American "liberalism" in general.

This is ONLY from Louisiana; Texas, Mississippi and Florida all ask the Feds to back off. Especially during Gustav and Ike, Texas told the Feds to leave them alone to fix it themselves.

Idea for a commercial after Obama’s one wrong affiliation after another

a duck...like the Alfac Duck ...( black or white, if you may)...with the caption...if it looks like a duck...walks like a duck...and quacks like a duck...it’s a duck....then where the Aflac duck usually says AFLAC...instead it says....OBAMA!
