Obama Indoctrination
Posted by: MichaelW on Saturday, October 04, 2008

The cultish fanaticism of Obama supporters is at once laughable and worrisome. Whether he be perceived as the "Lightworker" or "The One," his fervent followers exhibit disturbing displays of affection and devotion.

For the most part, however, I've been inclined to simply ridicule the messianic fervor of Obama disciples because, while I don't agree with the man on any single issue, I don't get the sense that he's as radical as his disciples Hope he'll be. Obama strikes me as less an empty suit than an empty vessel, with an agenda of power achievement, into which dreams and visions (or fears and nightmares, as the case may be) are poured to create the leader we imagine him to be. He is the ultimate Rorschach candidate, each of us seeing what we hope/fear about politicians in general.

Nonetheless, cultish behavior is still unnerving, however innocuous it may seem from the capillary level.

By now, most of you have seen both the Sing for Change and the "Obama Youth" fraternity madness (if not, please click through). While certainly bothersome in their blind devotion to a political leader (the former more so than the latter, as mentioned by Bob Owens), these videos aren't terribly significant in the grand scheme of things. There will always be some fans who get carried away with their fealty to the object of their devotion.

That is to say, regardless of how nutty some supporters may be, that shouldn't necessarily reflect poorly on the one being supported. Unless, of course, the one being supported encourages such devotion and indoctrination. Enter, Obama indoctrination for kids (my italics):
Welcome to Kids for Obama

In the words of Senator Barack Obama, the "Obama for America Campaign is a different type of campaign". For the first time in campaign history, children ages 12 and under, have a place to go and actually vote—through their voice. What a great way to be introduced to politics and to express your support for Senator Obama.

Check out the Kids for Obama
Starter Kit!

Below you will find a list of activities children 12 and under can do to get involved. To start, print out our Logo Coloring Sheet, color it in and display at your house or in your school.
It seems that "Obama Youth" is less a smear than a fact of The One's actual campaign. Keep in mind, this is from Obama's official website. His strategy is to blatantly encourage the exploitation of children for political ends by trying to involve kids 12 and under to be actively involved in his campaign. This goes quite a bit beyond pursuing the youth vote.

Considering Obama's tactic here, it should come as no surprise that he tried to have schools teach sex education to kindergartners. That was at least arguably, if misguidedly, beneficent, but actively pursuing children as campaign fodder is well beyond the pale. There is simply no excusable motive for attempting to involve children in one's coronation.

"I don’t get the sense that he’s as radical as his disciples Hope he’ll be."

I hate to be a Paul Revere and sound some alarm, but Obama makes Kerry and Gore seem moderate to a fault.

Read up on the far far-left legislation that Obama introduced and voted for while in the Illinois state Senate. Why is he the most liberal in the US Senate? In a Senate where there is Bernard Sanders and Ted Kennedy?

And his flirting with Jeremiah Wright, William Ayers, and Palestinians who advocate the death of Israel (and how Jews could vote for this man shows me how slavish Jews are to the Democrat Party) is also frightening. That he covorted with a known crook and thief, Tony Rezko, while Obama was signing legal documents that got Rezko federal loans that he then pocketed (did Obama ever get any of those funds? No one has ever asked - not as if they cared to).

Looking at this entire sordid record, from a man who has spent a mere four years in the US Senate, two of them running for President, with not one major piece of legislation under his wing and voting to strip the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan of support, while voting to jack up taxes and rape small business owners, is truly frightening indeed.

If this loon gets elected, I fear for this country. I truly fear for America under this man.

So you think Kindergarteners should not learn to know when adults are touching them inappropriately? As the father of a Kindergartener, I’m much comfortable with Obama’s approach than yours. As for your attempts to cherry pick certain events (things we could have found with Reagan and other popular politicians) and pretend that it’s some big cult, well, I think it’s sour grapes on your part. Most people simply think Obama has better ideas, and that the style of approach chosen by McCain is not what America needs. Obama is simply a Democratic version of what the GOP had in 1980, and whining from the right is reminiscient of the response the left had to Reagan. Politics is like a pendulum, it swings from one side to another, and the side on the losing end always fantasizes that the other guy is something scary. Chill. It’s OK. Of course, if it wasn’t for the Iraq debacle, we’d probably be seeing the results of a real attempt to create Bush’s idea of an "ownership society," and Obama would not even have a chance. Thank the decision to go to war against Iraq for the current state of affairs for the GOP (and the long predicted financial meltdown simply is coming at an opportune time for the Democrats)

I don’t know.

There’s the argument that he used the radical left to become President, but then he’ll become a 1994 Bill Clinton, for the most part cowed by Congress and Public Opinion into being a moderate. Or, he’s genuinely a radical leftist. And the appearance of an ’empty suit’ is the consequence of hiding his history and true positions.

But aside from that question. There are some unsettling things. The Psuedo-Presidential seal. The commemorative gold coins already struck. The word President embroidered on his airplane seat. The greek stage built exclusively for Obama.

Add to that the interaction with his public. People don’t become megalomaniacs in a vacuum. The adoration from groups like that mentioned is an ingredient. A press unwilling to be critical is another more disturbing development.

Most people simply think Obama has better ideas
That’s just absurd. Obama has presented nothing but pretty words, with no indication of any ideas or substance to back them up. The few ideas he has presented are no different than the same old crud the Democrats have been pushing for a long time, and losing elections on. Obama’s success is purely due to his ability to obscure the fact that there is nothing new to him or his campaign.
whining from the right is reminiscient (sic) of the response the left had to Reagan
Except that Reagan had significant leadership and executive experience and had a record of acting on his principles and beliefs. Obama has none of that. He blends in with the crowd, and votes present whenever possible to void taking a stand on principle. I suspect that is because he has no principle beyond the pursuit of power. The left whined about Reagan because they knew what he stood for and where afraid that given the chance he would prove to be correct. The right opposes Obama because he stands for nothing and shows tremendous character flaws. For that reason he will likely prove to be extremely bad for the country.
I don’t get the sense that he’s as radical as his disciples Hope he’ll be
What should scare you is that Obama’s complete lack of experience and leadership ability will lead him to hire those "disciples" for important, mid-level roles in the government. They will then run off implementing their distorted ideas largely out of sight of the public and without any functional direction or oversight from Obama. Even if Obama is not that radical (I believe he is) the outcome will be to allow the radicals to run things either way.

Scott, I agree with much of what you wrote. However, you weaken your argument by quoting an Obama talking point that has been debunked here at qando. Obama insists that the bill he voted for would teach kindergartners only about inappropriate touching. People here have read and quoted the bill and have shown that the bill actually says otherwise. A plain reading of the bill shows that the full panoply of sexual education would be applied to all grades, including kindergarten.

Is it possible that Obama thought that the bill applied only inappropriate touching teaching to kindergartners. But that would show that Obama is an imcompetent senator—not much of a defense. Obama needs to give more than just a false sound-bite to this issue—as well as to others.

I meant to add, but forgot (it was late when I wrote this), that this sort indoctrinating behavior prompts me to see Obama as more radical than I thought. As I wrote above, it’s one thing for some supporters to exhibit cultish behavior, it’s quite another for the candidate himself to encourage and promote it.
So you think Kindergarteners should not learn to know when adults are touching them inappropriately? As the father of a Kindergartener, I’m much comfortable with Obama’s approach than yours.
What I think should not be taught at the kindergarten level is what Obama proposed (i.e. "Each class or course in comprehensive sex education offered in any of grades K through 12 shall include instruction on the prevention of sexually transmitted infections, including the prevention, transmission and spread of HIV."). There is no age-appropriate way of teach about HIV spread and prevention. And as a parent of kindergartner myself, and unlike you, I would never abdicate my responsibility to teach my children this stuff to the state.
... I think it’s sour grapes on your part.

That’s because you’re nowhere near as smart or insightful as you pretend to be. Your continued attempts to psychoanalyze me and others is awfully telling, however.
My opinion is that Obama has played to the base of wherever he’s running, while remaining reliably liberal on most issues. That’s why I see him more as a politician than a radical leader. His quest seems aimed more towards attaining power as means of ego aggrandizement rather than to enact Bill Ayers’ wish list of political goals. That being said, the cult of personality stuff is still disturbing.
There’s something to be said for this, but I still think that Obama’s administration will look surprisingly similar to Bill Clinton’s and that he will govern much more like Jimmy Carter. That doesn’t thrill me, but I don’t find it overly alarming either.

If a 12 year old or even an 18 year old told me i should vote for obama my first question for them would be how will 95% of americans get a tax break from obama if less than 95% of americans pay taxes.

Maybe they teach liberal math now where students are classified as those who answer correctly and those who answer wrongly. Then we apply indiscrimination to it and both groups are considered to be correct.

And wasn’t it hitler that started the nazi indoctrination of elementary school kids?

Actually, I think it was actually Robert Owen and some individual religious groups who began such indoctrination in earnest. Mussolini, Hitler and Lenin/Stalin just took it to dizzying heights.

I see they dragged Kim Jong-Il out for the first time in nearly a month. I mention that because I see a lot of rather disturbing similarity between that situation and this. Whatever might be said of Dear Leader, and his brainwashed followers, might also be said of The Chosen One, and HIS followers.

For one thing, my earlier observation of Obama’s mindless followers... (And I would certainly include Erb in this group) ...is reinforced... that their devotion has no connection with logic or reason, and thereby Obama cannot be defeated on the grounds of reason and logic.

Their socialism would seem another common point. And so, logically, one may also point to the outcome of their being in power as another commonality.

Disturbing, at least.

Cultish behavior on the part of the Obama supporters means this is going to end in violence one way or the other.

Since the disputed 2000 election, it’s been a steady drum beat from the Dems, pushing it closer and closer to this end.

I believe it is what they want.

It is a lot more than that particular sex ed program and off course you know that.

It is about indoctrinating small children in your wacky political program. All of this was lauded by Bill Ayers where he said if he gets them youth then he will have them forever.

No wonder it is called Obama Youth.

This is just a quick shout out to the conservatives and moderates out there who oppose this insane media bias. In the last couple of weeks I’ve been actively using the site Digg.com and — wow — realized it’s loaded with liberals. They post all pro-Obama content and then "digg" it up and "digg" down anything they don’t like. I thought "no big deal": Well, their content frequently makes the top of Google searches. So, I’m asking you to spend a few minutes of your time in the Political arena and Digg the stories that are providing the facts — and any others you find! Digg.com. Thanks!

proFreedomgrl, I started using Digg a couple of weeks ago too, and realized the same thing. That site does desperately need some balancing, it’s like HuffPo in there. It is a pretty good place to find good examples of insane Obamabots though

Obama Indoctrination?

Look, the last 8 years have been about the "Cult of Bush." Bush as God. Bush as genius. And the rest of us have sat here and watched it. This site for years worshiped at the altar of Bush. Anyone who criticized Bush was declared a heathen.

This, from Powerline in 2005, prettymuch summarized the right’s adoration of Bush:
It must be very strange to be President Bush. A man of extraordinary vision and brilliance approaching to genius, he can’t get anyone to notice. He is like a great painter or musician who is ahead of his time, and who unveils one masterpiece after another to a reception that, when not bored, is hostile.
This was and continues to be the take on Bush by wingnuts such as those who post on this site.

And who comes next for wingnuts? Who is their next cult leader? Palin, of course. Lowry, this week:
"A very wise TV executive once told me that the key to TV is
projecting through the screen. It’s one of the keys to the success of,
say, a Bill O’Reilly, who comes through the screen and grabs you by
the throat. Palin too projects through the screen like crazy. I’m sure
I’m not the only male in America who, when Palin dropped her first
wink, sat up a little straighter on the couch and said, "Hey, I think
she just winked at me." And her smile. By the end, when she clearly
knew she was doing well, it was so sparkling it was almost
mesmerizing. It sent little starbursts through the screen and
ricocheting around the living rooms of America. This is a quality that
can’t be learned; it’s either something you have or you don’t, and
man, she’s got it."
I just think she winked at me? This coming from the editor of the nation’s most popular wingnut publication.

She just winked at me?

When it comes to indoctrination, when it comes to cults, wingnuts have cornered the market.

What, exactly, is your problem, Boris, with taking that responsibility yourself? If you’re worried about your kid, then give him the instruction you think is appropriate and not leave it to the judgement of a public school bureacrat.

With Wright, Ayers, Dohrn, and Pfleger in the picture, Obama doesn’t merit the benefit of the doubt.

Remember: 20 years a congregant in a racist church before pulling out a few months ago because it was finally stepping out of the shadows.

Where the direct racism of James Cone’s "black theology" — the basis of Wright’s "theology" — has been explicated in MSM remains the mystery, because I can’t find it.

Apparently, no one is allowed to touch it.

Exactly. They have a bitter distaste for criticism now. Wait until they’re on presdiential steroids for a few months.

Look at the behavior of the MSM right now. Does anyone think that’s going to improve if Obama is president?

Take a gander at how things go in Europe now. They’re very careful there about paying attention to the entire spectrum of Leftist points of views.

MK takes part of a quote from Powerline as evidence that there is a cult for Bush. Let’s look at the sentence immediately following the quote, shall we?
It must be very strange to be President Bush. A man of extraordinary vision and brilliance approaching to genius, he can’t get anyone to notice. He is like a great painter or musician who is ahead of his time, and who unveils one masterpiece after another to a reception that, when not bored, is hostile.

Hyperbolic? Well, maybe. But consider Bush’s latest master stroke: the Asia Pacific Partnership on Clean Development and Climate.
Gosh, I guess using humor to admit that the previous statement is filled with hyperbole wouldn’t clue in someone as dense as MK that Hinderaker was having some fun with his writing.

Also, let’s ignore the fact that Hinderaker was commenting on an accomplishment Bush made as the actual president rather than a promise being made by a candidate.

MK, once again you show yourself to be an idiot of extraordinary magnitude, and I write that without any hyperbole whatsoever.

After the creepy personality cult that grew up around Bush from ’00-’05 (see, eg: the documentary Jesus Camp, Noonan’s gushing about Bush’s "masculinity," the various man-crushes among NRO and Weekly Standard writers), I agree the country would do well to have a prez w/o a built-in personality cult, but that’s not enough reason to vote in McCain. His one pro, I guess, is that no one would ever like him, let alone love him.

Well, mk probably read that bowdlerized quote from DU and never had any link to go back and read it.

I always get the feeling that he read all this stuff of no particular provenance from the gutters of the left and just soaks it up because it feeds into his deluded fantasies.

This passage could just as easily be used for Sarah Palin.

When she was first chosen for the VP pick, the vast majority of republicans knew very little about her, but she was inexplicably hoisted to the top of the mast as the new colors for the conservative flagship.
I get why there would be hopeful enthusiasm from republicans for an attractive, fresh face on the political scene, especially when Palin has a short but respectable resume for being conservative if not in the very least not being a RINO. But it was odd to see savior accolades being projected on a person with such a shallow history. All over talk radio, television punditry, and right wing blogs, there were hallelujahs abound. Even the bloggers and commenters here were falling all over themselves in praise for this person, so much so that there were calls for Palin to have her own theme song.

Palin was a blank canvass for you to paint whatever picture you needed to contrast McCain’s obvious conservative shortcomings.

Palin was hailed as a conservative knight in shining armor, ready to ride in and slay the ferocious liberal dragon that was about to torture the land. And as it turns out, Palin carries no blade sharpened with substance, but carries chains shackled with inadequacies.
Palin is not the knight in shining armor, but rather the damsel in distress.

And on this blog and elsewhere, it was rightly pointed out that shortly after Palin was picked, the Left had no idea what to do about her. But now a tactic has made itself obvious… The dragon has nothing to do but leave be the damsel tied and screaming.

Cheers.
