The law of unintended consequencs - Part MCMLXVII
Posted by: McQ on Thursday, October 16, 2008

Let's say you're an illegal immigrant.

You've come to this country because you think there is a monetary advantage to being here. Whether your work is legal or illegal, it pays better than the old home country.

So what would be the biggest threat to you and your desire to make, relatively speaking, lots of money?

Not being allowed to stay here - no? If you're caught and deported you can't realize that desire can you?

So what would be the best possible scenario which would allow you the opportunity to realize your desire?

Why to be in a place where they refuse to check your immigration status, and, in fact, essentially offer you amnesty or "sanctuary". The place you'd most like to live and work would be a "sanctuary city".

Well, unfortunately, as you might have gathered from the intro, it isn't just those seeking a better life through legal work that show up in sanctuary cities. In fact, they attract illegal criminals like flies to fecal material:
Judicial Watch is leading a major nationwide campaign against illegal immigration sanctuary policies that prevent local police officers from cooperating with federal immigration officials. One of our key arguments against these policies (and there are many) is that they put American citizens at risk by allowing illegal alien criminals onto the streets to commit more crimes when they should be deported.

On October 2nd, the Maricopa County, Arizona District Attorney’s office released crime statistics that prove this point. Overall, while illegals represent only nine percent of the population in Maricopa County (which includes Phoenix) they are responsible for approximately 22% of the crimes committed. Here is a breakdown of statistics by crime category. Illegal aliens account for:

· 33.5% of those sentenced for manufacture, sale or transport of drugs.
· 35.8% of those sentenced for kidnapping.
· 20.3% of those sentenced for felony DUI.
· 16.5% of those sentenced for violent crimes.
· 18.5% of those sentenced for property crimes.
· 44% of those sentenced for forgery and fraud.
· 85.3% of those convicted of criminal impersonation or false ID.
· 96% of those convicted of human smuggling.
Many criminals are business men and women. Sure their business is violent, unsavory and illegal, but its their business nonetheless.

Should it surprise anyone then that even businesses that we all condemn are going to locate where the legal climate (and thus business climate) is best for them?

Well, apparently it came as a heck of a surprise to Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon who backed the sanctuary city idea.

The law of unintended consequences strikes again. Of course to anyone with the IQ of a cactus this could have been easily avoided by, you know, just thinking the idea through to its logical conclusion.

senor bruce, do the fine folks of maricopa not deserve to have their lawns mowed to within an inch of their lives? do these fine folks not deserve to have their inground swimming pools vacuumed and skimmed? if honorable hombres such as yours truly do not do zees work, who will? surely no self-respecting norte americano will stoop to such lows. pedro has seen your teenagers, there is no hope there, zee zitted population is far too busy with their gameboys, their playstations, their eating of many fast foods, to spend time in zee hot sun, moving other peoples lawns. their parents don’t even make them mow their own.

pedro thinks that amedika is a fine country. a few poor desperados are a small price to pay for nice looking lawns.

god bless amedika!

I do think that there should be a better mechanism in place for bringing in and assimilating people who would like to live here, but I know, offhand that a few of those crimes are, of course, going to be most likely committed by illegal immigrants: forgery/fraud, criminal impersonation, and human smuggling (not sure if kidnapping is applied to certain cases).

I wonder how all of those dolts in the Western US will react when they vote for Obama and he halts Homeland Security from sending illegal aliens back to their home countries.

Obama will make the entire US into a sanctuary country.

One can just it now: Obama is in office a year, illegals are getting Obama’s storied tax breaks that middle class voters will be forced to pay for, and reporters can ask these morons who voted for "change" and "hope" will say that they "hope" they can survive until 2012 when they intend to "change" the US government again and send Obama packing after one term in office, a term which will make Jimmy Carter look like a success in comparison.

Unless those illegals get the vote (something not out of the realm....either via law or via ACORN)

Hey, don’t dis’ cacti. They have a profound, elemental intelligence. They can live where most other creatures die, and they can fight back... all without a brain.

They just *know*.
