It’s always funny to hear this kind of story near the end of an election cycle. It’s a sign that the losing party is looking for anything and everything to throw at their opponent. This kind thing happens everywhere, all the time. Identity theft and credit card fraud, unfortunately, are as common as jaywalking and speeding.
I had my checkbook stolen once, and the thief that took it spent 75 dollars of my hard earned money at a Safeway grocery store. Man, I should have held it against Safeway huh?
BTW, I made a little cartoon about Palin and put it on YouTube. Here’s the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gqegF5CfeQ
Enjoy! |

So credit card fraud is no biggie in Shaun-world? |

This is for your own good, really.
In the future, the perfect American Producer shall give unto his Benevolant Overload everything, and in return shall be given just enough to survive, so that all have the same amount. This way, there will be no property crime, because no one will have more than anyone else.
With property crime eliminated, thus shall end violent crime, and so weapons will no longer be needed.
And so, with all crime and violence gone, we will enter a Golden Age, lead by The One... |

Shaun, I’m gonna take your Palin video and put my name on it and pass it around as my work. I mean, plagiarism (aka Bidenism) is as common as jaywalking and speeding. What’s the big deal, right? |

This happened to my boss, a Major in the AF. Her card was not stolen or missing, it was safe and sound in her purse, she opened up a statement and there was a charge to BO’s campaign without her knowledge.
Hers was not $2300 like the rest, it was about $600. The charge was sucessfully removed from her account. |

We must be clear. This is not remotely like someone stealing your checkbook and going to Safeway. The thief in that story receives something of benefit (groceries), while Safeway gets something of benefit (money). Both parties to the transaction receive a benefit. Then, when the fraud is discovered, Safeway is WORSE off, because the money goes away.
In this case, the Obama campaign is not Safeway. They’re giving nothing of value to people who give them money; they are the ONLY PARTY WHO RECEIVES A BENEFIT. So it’s just plain nuts to think somebody stole a credit card in order to receive nothing of value.
Although, let’s be frank, Democrats ARE all about taking other people’s money to make the world better, this is just a more direct version of that. |

That is why I use never use a credit card if I can avoid it. You do not have to steal the actual card to use it, just the number, and there are many ways to do it. That nice waitress that you had at lunch, for example, may be running her own little business on the side. I believe there was a post here some time ago that talked about other ways to steal credit card information. |

Some context for what my comment: I was hit by identity thieves this past summer. Apparently ID theft is pathetically easy, and so common that not one of the credit card companies I needed to contact to let them know that I was not the person who opened that charge account was inclined to question me in the least. Apparently it is quite common for people living in Florida to go to Michigan for the sole purpose of opening up new charge accounts and spending $5K at stores there (computers or electronics, since they hit Best Buy and Circuit City, but I have to wonder what someone would do with $5K worth of toys, because they also hit ToysRUs. Play Santa Claus in July, maybe. And they rented a UHaul truck, to move the loot, I presume. UHaul eventually found it in a police impoundment lot.) The only stores which challenged the transactions were Sears/Citicard MasterCard and JCPenney (after the fact, in the case of the latter). Because they caught on, the spree lasted only a couple of days; and then I guess they went on to pretend to be someone else. Although they were able to hang on to the three cell phones from AT&T for another ten days, until I got that bill in the mail.
The original place where my ID was stolen was very probably one of the three hospitals where I was a patient this past December/January. Trust no one, is the lesson I learned here.
Rhetorical question: which candidate would scum like an ID thief be more likely to support?
And wouldn’t he be pleased as punch to be a patriotic citizen and contribute several hundred dollars to his candidate, especially since it wasn’t his money?
From what I’ve seen, there’s not really any safeguard an ID thief could circumvent fairly easily for any computerized system or donation phone bank. There isn’t even the shipping address matching the billing address that online retailers can use.
So while it’s quite possible that an ID thief is working inside the Obama camp, it’s at least as likely that the Obama campaign is not at fault.

As a lefty, it seems, who as a group claims they care about the little guy, I’m surprised that you didn’t just look the other way. I mean, obviously someone was hungry and needed food. Its the caring thing to do. |

Oh stop complaining. One must steal the wealth before one can start spreading it around. Why not start by stealing the election? ACORN has been getting hammered in the blogosphere, but for my money (taxes and as yet unknown credit card charges); no one better represents the voting voice of felons and cemetery residents. |

So, I assume you have proof indicating that Obama or his campaign officials perpetrated this? Or are you just trying to get a pat on the back from McCain? |
